I think there are unlikely to be passport-only restrictions on the Belfast to Birkenhead, or the Heysham to Stranraer route.
Last time similar restrictions were proposed and partially implemented, there was very significant levels of public disorder in NI, including the burning of public...
Would you have to have bypasses for those entire section, or would online upgrades be possible in some places? I agree that you would need that sort of length to reduce journey times below 3hr45, but I'm not convinced you'd need completely new lines for all of those sections.
Given that HS2 2b...
But if you get that to 140mph +, then build the Morpeth bypasses and other bypasses to alleviate significant speed restrictions, then the journey time reduction is more sizeable, correct?
Okehampton Interchange cost £18m, and there was some contribution from central government (as I said earlier, not sure it would apply here, but it's possible).
Therefore, a station on the Long Marston site seems feasible.
I agree that a developer funded extension the whole way to the current...
Sorry, I didn't see your previous post.
It seems some significant work is still left to be done, but I still consider the Selby Diversion itself and hypothetical future bypasses at Morpeth and other locations the best chance of seeing 140mph+ on the ECML.
Maybe a smaller new town with 5-10k houses close to junction 50 of the A1(M) could help justify reinstatement.
It's clear that 20-25k population along the route isn't enough to support rebuilding, but the northern section between Ripon and Northallerton has plenty of unremarkable land and North...
140-150mph makes sense for the proposed bypasses if the Azumas are capable, but the rest of the line probably can't accommodate 140mph without a further reduction in capacity.
Oxford is a different prospect to Leam Spa or Banbury.
It's far better connected, especially with EWR opening soon, and a major tourist destination in itself.
Therefore, self-guided tour London-Oxford-Stratford upon Avon is a very natural choice, especially for a history buff.
I agree that it...
Interesting.
Building a parkway on the site of the old station would be very well located for the M40.
The proximity to the A43 would be good for a rail shuttle bus to both Brackley/Silverstone and the new Heyford Park development too.
However, I also hope consideration is given to providing a...
There's quite a few in that area. I think the one between Sandford (east end of Woodley) and Hurst is in Whistley Green, and there's a few more dotted around the Loddon valley I believe.
Yeah my point was run normal frequency to Woodcote and maybe a more frequent connecting single decker shuttle into Reading. With a single decker you could route over Reading Bridge, through past Cav library and up on to the B481 down Chester St or somewhere similar. I guess disruption wasn't...
Wow! That's quite a way around. I guess you couldn't get anything larger than a minibus over Whitchurch bridge.
This is one situation where diverting the X40 after Wallingford express to Didcot and ticket acceptance on GWR would be useful, with a local shuttle once an hour for the villages...
Have you ever reported this personally to TfGM?
I guess they could send some of the security types that hang around Victoria to Wythenshawe, but they support revenue operations around that area, so I'm not sure how willing they'd be to do this.
