Thank you both thats useful information. I had heard that the Par depot was the likely location but wasn't sure if there were any others through Cornwall.
In the future myself and my family hope to relocate down to Cornwall, we are likely talking quite far into the future possibly 10 years maybe more unless a golden opportunity to do it presents itself beforehand.
Anyway I'm doing some research into how practical the move would be work wise so...
Cheers pal that's nice and simple, Im assuming there's a quick and easy way of contacting everyone to see who will trade dates like a group email or so forth?
I will be 100% focused on my training but I'm just trying to iron out any potential hurdles I may have to face, this is my first job on...
How much of a headache is it to swap dates though? I know there will be a good amount of people who likely want time off outside of school hols which will be useful to me. If it's a fairly quick and easy process to exchange dates then that's fine.
I told them I had leave booked and gave a rough outline of when it was but have yet to confirm dates and I have also booked more time through the year prior to the SWR job offer so hopefully wont be any issues getting the dates approved.
The rostered leave is something that concerns me a...
Also wanted to ask - I have several holiday dates already booked through the year, in previous employment when starting the employer has always honoured any pre-booked leave dates, I'm assuming this will be the same with SWR or does this present any issues?
My bad still new to all this I'll be working for SWR.
Thanks that's pretty much the info I was looking for.
Are the two annual leave days rostered for you or can you select when you take them?
So about 12 weeks in total? That's more or less what I expected.
I'm starting my commercial guard training this Monday reporting in for a HR induction day where I assume I will get a outline of what the next couple of months will look like.
Just a few questions dont know if any guards past present or future or anyone else on here can help?
I'm told the...
I'm the same, I'm very much someone who likes to leave work at the office and keep my personal life separate so I wont be constantly droning on about my job on social media.
Like you I normally list my job on my profile but only friends can see it.
Keeping tabs on every employees social media would be a impossible task, in my experience as long as you dont name and shame the company or certain people or make it blatantly obvious who you're moaning about then you should be ok. If you list your employer in your profile on platforms like...
Noted. I received the company social media policy this week so from this point I will be a lot more subdued I think. It's very easy to be more outspoken than you mean to be on social media so sometimes it's best to just say nothing especially if a company has a strict code on it.
Exactly. The generous salary is obviously very inviting and one of the main reasons people apply to work the railways but I made a point of trying not to focus on pay during the interview. To be honest while the salary is very good there were many other factors as to why I persued this career...
Thank you that's a very good overview, it's more or less what I expected, a revision of the commercial guard role which could have a knock on effect which could lead to the reduction of staffing levels.
Could this not just result in reduced hours though rather than removing staff completely...
That's the view I'm taking, any major change isn't likely to happen soon so I'm just going to focus on my training and becoming productive and taking a positive attitude towards my new role.
I would like to know one thing though - is the strike action due to talk of removing the guard role...
Thought that might be the case. Could you point me towards any threads that best cover the subject to save me hunting through hundreds of different posts?
I've had my contract and welcome pack through now which I've completed.
Can anyone give me a outline of the commercial guard training? I...
Thanks for the info all. If I've worked it out right starting on 20th Jan means I start at the beginning of the next pay cycle so I should get a full 4 weeks pay on the Feb pay date.
Regarding the guard issue, I only know what has been made public about this so far, am I right in thinking...
Occupational Health were happy to take just one BP reading from my local GP. They even said they would accept a reading from the self assessment BP machines you can use at most surgerys now provided I then got a stamped print out from the receptionist.
I got a nurse to take my BP and I then...
It was actually pretty intense. You are sat in a sound proof booth wearing headphones, a series of beep noises are then played at different levels of volume, you are instructed to press a button each time you hear a sound.
It went on for quite a while and the booth was really hot I was...
Still not recieved my contract, I contacted recruitment who said it should be on it's way soon something about it was on someone's to do list, didn't sound like they were in a hurry to get it done.
I think it'll arrive via email and will have a link to take me to where I need to go to accept...
The shift pattern is something I'm a little concerned about, I have a young daughter but fortunately between my partner and our parents we should be ok for childcare, my concern is more how much quality time I will lose with my family.
Dont get me wrong my exact hours have not been confirmed...
