Definitely something wrong with the contract side of things though. When the windscreen wipers and headlights were failing they had to take units out of service due to lack of spare parts. The parts arrived at Kirkdale depot via “man in a van” from Poland. So nothing procured locally.
Merseytravel borrowed the money from the EU Investment bank to buy the trains, then Brexit happened and Stadler a European train manufacturer with nil history of 3rd rail in the UK was selected. To be fair though Stadler trains are excellent trains, I think the problem with the 777s is that...
There is an element of truth to this, but I’m not sure about the chevron bit.
2x units have failed recently due to the train being crush loaded/ overloaded. Due to the excess weight the sliding step is now lower that the platform edge and will not retract until the step is back level with the...
According to Social Media. The train was severely overcrowded due to an earlier 777 going out of service. The driver was unable to close the doors due to the proximity of passengers.
After numerous unsuccessful attempts to close the doors a passenger had a “panic attack” and activated the...
My source tells me the reason that the 777s are not out in great numbers today is due to the Air Conditioning units failing and the passengers literally baking inside the train.
Spoke to my friend yesterday who works there. There train failed and the Drivers displays (which look like large tablet screens) went blank and then rebooted to a command prompt screen presumably waiting for an input from a keyboard or whatever Stadler use. The units appear to be running on Linux.
The LCD panels which contain train running information ie arrival times etc the text is way too small. You literally need to be sat under or next to it to read all the information available.
That I’m not sure about.
I was at Central over the weekend and the Kirkby 777 was waiting on platform 1. I observed that the doors close by themselves after about 10-15 seconds. And with the constant stream of passengers coming down the escalators the door’s literally must of open/closed...
There doesn’t seem to be any end in sight of the current problems. If anything as the 777s accumulate mileage they are now experiencing faults with the door motors.
The relationship ship with Merseytravel/ Stadler seems to be going bitter. Stadler are now blaming the...
It would appear that they haven’t built in a “fail safe”. As soon as the PIS spits out it’s dummy a warning on the drivers dashboard tells them to retire at the next station.
It’s got absolutely nothing to do with that. My contact tells me the units display “Out of Service” by themselves which is against the agreed fault on trains running plan. It would appear this problem is not of Stadler’s own making but rather the company (Teleste) whom they subcontracted out the...
I think everyone is in for a big shock, my friend who works at Kirkdale has shown me a pic of a 777 vinyl wrapped blue and covered in balloons/hearts for Eurovision. Beyond hideous.
I’m unsure of the unit no, however the unit in question is clearly visible from Kirkdale platform as it has plastic sheeting covering up it’s missing headlights.
My contact at MR says they are cannibalising a 777 to keep the others going on the Kirkby line. Namely headlights and windscreen wipers. They can’t get the replacement parts quick enough from Stadler.
Merseyrail Guards are fully trained in Evacuation. In the past 6 months or so Merseyrail Guards have put down protection (bars) due to broken down units and sadly fatalities.
