That option is not easy at all, unless you don't mind chaos. The section of route between Woodgrange Park and Barking is already busy with 4 London Overground trains an hour in each direction plus numerous freight trains to/from Tilbury and London Gateway. Forest Gate Junction is not grade...

The obvious place to extend it to is Leytonstone, as has been suggested many times before. The distance between Walthamstow Central and Leytonstone Station is about two miles as the crow flies, 2.2 miles by the shortest road road route.

I doubt that very much indeed. Previous debates have concluded building an OOC station on the West London Line would be both mega-expensive and extremely difficult. Transport for London have adopted the West London Orbital Project and have added to it an OOC station on the North London Line...
