On the XC Stafford - Manchester id very much doubt you'll be provided with anything since it's such a short distance. Not too sure about the TPE bit though.
Any West Midlands station to London or stations in between is £10... Any other route (Manc, Glasgow, Liverpoool, North Wales or Scotland) or any station in between is £15 upgrade fee. We'll worth it though!!
Correction to the above...
Weekend First is a flat fare of £15.00 on all routes with the exception of the West Midlands (brown route A in timetables), where a flat £10.00 upgrade fee is payable.
The only answer I know is on ALL TGV trains you are required to take the particular seat and sit in it. This is because the seats do not display seat reservation info.
I've upgraded on a short haul flight when BA had their £89 offer on and thoroughly loved very minute of it. So much so that I'm planning my next Club Europe trip soon.
Further afield I wouldn't know so ill leave it to the experts.
With a through tickets to Europe, you cannot use any UK Railcard discounts as the fares are already discounted anyway.
You can however, ask for a senior fare which will provide an even better discount, so long as you meet the eligibility to criteria.
I wasn't using the WCML but could see a huge plume of smoke and was curious as to where it came from. I searched on Bucks Fire but to no avail. Thanks for shedding some light on it.
If it counts, you can still do so on the Tyne and Wear Metro, Copenhagen Metro and possibly some ICE trains in Germany (albeit with a clear screen behind te driver on the ICE trains)
