All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

Just a gentle reminder that this thread is no the place to rake over the coals of various industrial relations grievances justified or not. Particularly grievances that might date back privatisation itself!

    Engineering Works ECML November 2026

Sorry there's been a minor hitch and we've lost your thread title which had the route described, would you mind reposting it as a reply?

Why is Edge Hill closed on Sundays?

I think we might be starting to wander slightly off-topic here. The location of other Universities is not exactly relevant to the matter of services at Edge Hill! Thanks :)

Unidentifiable train seats for sale online - What train are they from?

Sure but the HST has more of an emotional attachment which drives up the price. Versus some random seats which don't look very comfy and we can't even work out what train they're from!

    Station association

Just a gentle reminder that we need a rail based association and I don't think "they both end in 't'" really counts. We're still at Hillfoot so how about Shettleston which is also a station on the North Clyde Line served via Glasgow Queen Street.

Should PAYG fares for HS1 between St Pancras and Stratford be harmonised?

Sorry I've been slightly imprecise in my language. I meant that it seems like a lot of people get on at Stratford going east for example. Rather than a load of people getting off and then a load of new people getting on. Obviously people get off at Stratford but not hoards of them.

Unidentifiable train seats for sale online - What train are they from?

They remind me of Thameslink seats with the lack of armrests and no seat back tables but they're the wrong colour. Was there a Class 700 demonstrator?

Should PAYG fares for HS1 between St Pancras and Stratford be harmonised?

At the moment you can use PAYG for journeys between St Pancras and Stratford International (£7.40 peak and £5.10 off-peak) whilst travelcards are not valid at all. Is it time to remove this anomaly and change the HS1 fares to be the same as as the regular Zone 1 to Zone 2 fare (£3.60 peak and...

The cost of living agenda - how should the railway contribute ?

I mean I think we get a bad rep and it's not as bad as it seems. But at the same time... Looks at the news...

    Russia invades Ukraine

Sorry yes, I should have clarified rather than leaving my thought half finished. I meant in ideological terms. It's actions are clearly straight from the USSR playbook (and the Russian Empire before that). That's what I find weird. People on the left acting like there is still an ideological...

Yeah I'm not going to revel in their deaths in the way that some have been doing so. But...

Ghost drivers - Fatal crash on A66

Yes, one suggests a darkened room afterwards to allow your blood pressure to recover. But this is why it's so complicated. What on earth do you do in the scenario in which you have multi-generational issues with clocking out of anything even beginning to resemble a social contract (justified or...

    Russia invades Ukraine

And there seem to be some on the left (though normally it's those that were a) alive and b) involved in political activity at the time) who still seem to associate Russia with the USSR. Putin's Russia is nothing like the USSR. It borrows some of the trappings to claim legitimacy and to play on...

Ghost drivers - Fatal crash on A66

I wish I could remember where I first came across that but that tallies with my own reading on the subject. Generally speaking people who commit crimes aren't really thinking about the length of the sentence they might get but whether they're going to get caught. Generally if someone thinks that...

    Selby-York

I can't speak to that bit of Northern but certainly round my way you can use Seatfrog to swap to your AP to another service for £1.50 or £2.00. I've never seen it not be available but that might be different for a large city like Leeds. I use APs for my commute sometimes it's been handy on the...

Ghost drivers - Fatal crash on A66

There's a Go Fund Me running at the moment sponsored by the Cleveland Police Federation for the families of the two dead officers (funds to be shared equally) at the time of posting it's reached just over £500k in around twenty-four hours. If anyone would like to contribute...

Ghost drivers - Fatal crash on A66

The police can stop and question you at any time without suspicion but equally you don't have to stop and answer their questions unless they actually arrest you. They can stop and search you only if they have reasonable grounds to suspect you are carrying something illegal like drugs, weapons or...
