Govia Thameslink first class penalty fare dispute

Not 100% sure this is the right subforum given this isn't a personal issue, so apologies. A student 'confused' by Thameslink's First Class declassification procedure has lead to an online and media storm about Thameslink approach to the "two First Class" setup on their trains...

UK rail minister got engineer sacked for raising safety concerns

This. Playing the man not the ball. Dennis is irrelevant to the issue here - whatever one thinks of him - and where he is placed on the scale from irritant to whistle-blower is immaterial. The chair of a public sector body should not have sent that letter. It has a very clear purpose and...

UK rail minister got engineer sacked for raising safety concerns

The only reason the Chair of an organisation sends a letter like this to a supplier is to get that person sacked. He doesn't have to make the demand explicit in order to make it obvious.

‘Please mind the gap between the train and the platform’

Its been fairly standard at most of the Great Northern network for the last few years, probably since the 717s were introduced perhaps.

When is station road not station road

Station Road, Archway on what is now the Overground and site of a Royal Mail facility and industrial park, but previously some sort of goods yard / rail depot judging by the layout.

New push to convert Oyster users to Contactless and mobile payments?

Doubt it, with the cost it'd take to update all maps, signage, apps and internal infrastructure...well it'd certainly need 3rd party sponsorship for it to happen! See: local politicians campaign for Archway station to be renamed for Dick Whittington - never gonna happen!

    Delay repay amount

If you have a day ticket If you're delayed by: 30-59 minutes you're entitled to at least 50% of the single fare paid, or if you bought a return ticket at least 50% of the fare paid for the affected portion https://www.thameslinkrailway.com/help-and-support/journey-problems/delay-repay

    GN Class 717

I was on that train! The extra delay at Alexandra Palace was just because the driver was "on the phone to control" - and also to let a 313 overtake us out of the station. Suspect the original fault was a poor connection with the OHPL - as there was quite a lot of clunking above us when we were...

    GN Class 717

Had my first experience on these today MOG - PBR, sat sideways in the priority seat you really feel all the twists and undulations in the NCL tunnels! Despite the fact it was announced as soon as we left "High-Berry and Islintonne" the number of people trying to get out at the rear carriage at...

    List of automated delay reasons?

This train has been delayed due to "more trains than usual needing repairs at the same time". It was the "than usual" bit that made me chuckle...

Gold Card discount for PAYG: Is it available on Contactless, or just Oyster?

A simple "there are beenfits to having the gold card, go online to find out more" would have done ;) Thanks guys! Guess I'll go back to using Oyster...

Gold Card discount for PAYG: Is it available on Contactless, or just Oyster?

Just found out that my Gold Card season ticket entitles me to 1/3 off some Oyster travel (funny how the station staff don't tell you this!). The website says to show both the Gold Card and the Oyster Card to a member of TfL staff to sort out. My question is does the discount also apply to...

    Trademarked Names for franchises?

I would speculate that this trademarking also gives them control over the use of these names in merchandising and advertising

Sole Passenger on a National Express Coach Service

Couple of times I've been the only passenger on the 403 from Bath -> Heathrow or even in the other direction London -> Heathrow. Usually midweek , off peak journeys but still!

First West of England (Bristol, Bath & The West)

As a student at Bath Uni (trying to figure out what is happening to the buses next year!) the U2 was successful enough in it's own right to maintain the double deckers (at least during the morning/afternoon peaks), let alone with all 10 of Wessex's passengers now having to use it instead of the...

    Buddleia plants covering railway infrastructure

True, true, but they made it clear why most of this stuff have been planted and left to grow in the first place!

    Buddleia plants covering railway infrastructure

Was involved on a residential scheme that was built on brownfield land next to existing track. Let's just say they were fairly candid in our consultation meetings with their asset management teams...

    Buddleia plants covering railway infrastructure

My suspicion would be that the buddliea, much like the Japenese knotweed, was originally allowed to grow across boundaries and the like over the years to deter developments adjacent to NR owned/operated land. Though of course, if they think it's growing into their land from your side of the...

Cheaper to split GN season ticket?

Ah yes thanks guys, seems to be the difference is the 9 week one misses off the last Sunday, whereas my full 10 week one included it (I used the specific dates thing on their website to get the exact prices). Certainly makes more sense than National Express' pricing!

Police Scotland to take over British Transport Police in Scotland? [Now on hold]

The worst bit is, you just know if they were called the "Transport Police" instead, this wouldn't have happened...
