There is a crossover operated by a groundframe on the Arundel Jn side of the level crossing. The line was closed on the down side of this for engineering works across the junction, meaning a replacement bus was operating to Barnham and Littlehampton and trains would come into Angmering, empty...

I'd go with what has already been said - if you replace a semaphore signal on AB with a colour light, then it will often be two aspect (R-G or R-Y) or a distant (Y-G). The spacing of the signals on the line and line speed are two factors in 3 or 4 aspect signalling on TCB mainly, also...
If you're at one of the big NR run stations, just do what this says and print a copy of the "Rail Enthusiasts" policy! Infact, if I were going out filming/photographing trains (which I don't!) then I'd print and take it with me wherever I was going, regardless of the TOC!
My grandparents on both sides lived in quite good view of the railway, one overlooked the entire branch from Bishopstone station to Newhaven Town, with a great view of the harbour and trains leaving Newhaven "Continental" [Marine]. I remember one day seeing the first "Network South East" train...
