Try the Line to Barnstaple as an example it works as all but Crediton and Eggesford are request stops, unless the train is booked as a fast and does not stop for requests this makes about a 15 minute difference on the Journey
We often have 4 car voyagers down in this neck of the woods especially the 1644 sardine can from Bristol Temple Meads to Plymouth/Penzance which get cancelled at Exeter when is a high tide with a stiff breeze
Hopefully with the Refurb planned on the 159's from Exeter and Salisbury this problem will be fixed if enough of us have had our concerns noted in the hand over
To prevent passengers being swept off the platform by the backdraft of a passing train as once occurred at harpenden when a small person was thrown across the tracks after a passing HST at speed had been through and the person was standing on the edge.
With the tripling costs of the complete cock up of the electrification on the GWML suddenly the bi-mode are the way forward, unfortunately these trains will be a much poorer replacement for the HST, so far none of the train companies have considered a replacement power plant such as the Methane...
With The current position of the electrification of the GWML these new trains for the cardiff swansea route will spend about 50% of their time underperforming whilst in diesel mode ( a noisy 95 mph max) and those who will be on the 802's will have to suffer this for up to 80% of their journey as...
From what I can see on various historical sources the Private sidings dept were a division of the LNWR that managed the interconnection of company sidings to the LNWR main lines.
max speed on third rail 110 if your lucky
OHLE 325 KM in europe 140 mph here
transformer 3rd rail 1 per mile
ole 5 miles or more
economics power transfer and speed
Using the newspaper train from Exeter to Barnstaple with the lights out on a 110 or 101 DMU and seeing the countryside at night between naps on the wide bench seats:)
WEll thats us down here on the SWML *uggered as we wil get more life expired kit while the GWML sector gets the AT800's 16X 397's etc and we end up with 143's 153's and worse with slow trains to the south west to replace the venrable HST's that have never been allowed to run properly over the...
Have used the coach for economy reason on the NX 501 from Totnes, seats hard and unforgiving spends 2-2.5 hours getting nowhere (exeter) then takes the long way round to London via M5/M4 arrived late due to traffic only benefit was the cost £9.00 return
this trip was supposed to be in...
Overhead power would be a great idea for the line west of basingstoke but there a number of issues the further west you get with the restriction of the track width at Templecombe and Crewkerne as they have moved the platforms and bridges
Then you have serious issues of flooding between Honiton...
Decarbonisation - When this is applied to the SWML (if Ever) we have some serious obstacles to overcome the section of the line between Dawlish Warren and Teignmouth being the first any electric ,Bimode or badly designed Diesel train (XC 22x class unit) will go belly up in first signs of any...
fat chance of decarbonisation as electrification will never come down here to the south west as this line just gets fixes (Dawlish) rather than proper upgrades and now about to be shafted with AT300 underpowered bi modes
