Upthread there was mention of a St Pancras to Tilbury service. Does anyone know of the route it took and if it would still be theoretically possible to run this service today? (Obviously Tilbury Riverside is now closed).

Purely due to the fact that it's where I grew up I'd have to say the Corringham Light Railway. The track to the old Kynochtown station still exists and is part of the line to the oil refinerys - when I was younger every time I'd get on s train Londonwards I'd see the junction to the LTS line...

In 2014 I stayed at the Hotel Astor in Wuppertal for a couple of days (Schlossbleiche 4-6, Wuppertal) which had the VRR ticket. We used it to get to Köln, back to the airport at Düsseldorf when we left and of course on the Schwebebahn!

Can I nominate one from Ireland? Ballina to Sligo, 53 minutes by car (using AA routeplanner), quickest train time is 8 hours 31 minutes (using Irish Rail Journey planner)..
