Longest journey in the UK to run with stock that lacks toilet facilities

the 2346 ex Moorgate runs to Letchworth (via Hertford) for stock balancing reasons. It gets there at 0109 taking 1h23m. I bets thats fun on a friday night! https://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/service/gb-nr:C18553/2026-08-12/detailed#allox_id=0

Bluebell Railway NSE Diesel Gala 4-6 September 2026

If the MHR gala a few years ago is anything to go by, expect one full liner per day and the equivalent of brake can rides to the sidings the rest of the day. The batteries in the MLVs are not built for sustained running for long periods of time. Still absolutely worth visiting for!

Interesting, which bits aren't PRM compliant? I'm surprised it has been implemented in a non compliant way

    Stranraer line engineering works: 08/08/2026-30/08/2026.

It's 34mins Stranraer to Barhill, so a 2hourly service would be possible without the Glenwhilly loop

New Open Access Application: London - Southampton - Marchwood

The southern ECS to the up and down goods loops are just there for driver route knowledge retention, if the driver on the day doesn't need a refresher, there's no need for the train to run

https://www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/first-gbr-anglia-trains-unveiled-as-greater-anglia-and-c2c-merge-91170/ That's a suprise, a pleasant one! Nice to see a bit of joined up thinking. I wonder if this will spread to say SN & SE 377s, especially as they are both maintained out of Selhurst Depot

    Dawlish-Teignmouth Overtaking

I heard a story from a signaller friend in Vic ASC, something had gone wrong and the bi di on the WLL needed using. The driver of a LO train stopped at the signal (with the route to the other road) rung the box to say he didn't sign the down road in the up direction...... After a southern train...

    Lee-Hither Green signalling sequence

At risk of looking at this too simply, TL344 was at double yellow, so TL342 would be single yellow and TL294 at red protecting the junction. Wouldn't that be the normal expected situation? Or an I missing something?

Statistically is the UK railway network now less safe?

Very interesting reading, thanks for posting 1782669320 This is exactly what prompted my original question, I remember we did 'statistical significance' at school but that was a while ago and the methodology escapes me now 1782669360 Auto correct and a mix of dyslexia!

Statistically is the UK railway network now less safe?

I'm sure there are cleverer statisticians on this forum than me. Can the increase in fatal train crashes in recent years be considered statically significant? Or tragically unfortunate. Purely from a statistics point of view is the railway less safe in the 2020s than the 2010s or 2000s? A...

Trivia: Ticket office with the most minimal opening hours.

Maybe, I don't know how long cashing up takes but OBS and Conductors on Southern get ~10mins so 4mins seems a bit tight. I'm not sure if they lock the station loos up too
