    Change to XC Branding

I assume any rebrand would be tied up with a new contract award for XC as there are only a few months left on their current one.

DfT publishes Cross Country Prior Information notice

Does anyone know why it refers to a direct award rather than a National Rail Contract, like all other TOCs?

East Midlands franchise won by Abellio

Surely not 180s. I thought Grand Central would be after those.

East Midlands franchise won by Abellio

Yes I noticed this and wondered what units are these going to be? I can't think of any suitable trains that will be available for May 2020?

    Annoying jargon in railway announcements

Passenger is the old fashioned term. You are paying for the railway service, therefore you are a customer. Whatever will people find to complain about next.

22 class 185 units being released by TPE - Where could they go?

    Class 387

Anyone know what a 387/1 was doing just south of Wembley Central today? Didn't get the number but saw it as I was heading back from Euston this eve.

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Ah. But if they aren't going to be operating the doors, then the role has already changed surely? So there'd be no sense in keeping a certain pay grade if the role doesn't exist in that capacity any more...

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Genuine question : How do conductors today think they have a case against the 12 car DOO trains, when there are already operational 12-car 377s on Thameslink services ?

    Commuting on advance tickets

It's not something I'm looking to commit to for the rest of my working life, just looking at the feasibility of it short term. Based on living walking distance from the start point, to a London terminus which is also within walking distance of my place of work. I'm aware of how painful...

    Commuting on advance tickets

On a personal level though, I don't use the underground or buses regularly as I get off at Euston and walk the 15-20 mins to my office, which makes the 8:05 arrival quite good for a 9am start (personally as I prefer not to rock up at 9 on the dot.) and the 18:49 gives enough time if I may happen...

    Commuting on advance tickets

Oops, not the best example then. Based on a regular working day then, if I pay 5 times a week a total of £17.80 (£7.90 + £9.90 fare), in theory that would be a substantial saving if against the Nuneaton-Euston season ticket which is £615.

    Commuting on advance tickets

The example I've checked just now was Mon 2nd May 2016 - one way on the 07:28 VT from Nuneaton to Euston is currently £4.95 with a 16-25 railcard.

    Commuting on advance tickets

Hi guys, this would be based on arriving into Euston at around 8:30. Some good points - have been giving myself some wriggle room in cases of finishing work late. I had been researching Nuneaton to Euston, using a VT departure at 7:28 and arriving 8:27 for example, and returning on the 18:49...
