    The open tops are on the 78 (Keswick-Seatoller) with Solos on the 77/77A (Keswick-Buttermere circular). There are parts of the 77/77A route which could not be accessed by anything bigger.

    In the 1960s, Ribble service 85 (Blackpool-Knott End) was worked by double--decks and the conductor would go round the bus when approaching the Shard Bridge to collect one (old) penny from each passenger and hand the money to the toll collector!

    SGBC has got plenty of work without persisting with one service which is causing them grief. No matter whether it is commercial or contracted they will not lose any sleep over this. Schools and parents are frequently in denial over reports of unruly behaviour on school transport.
