Very well written piece about disruption and passenger behaviour from a Rail workers POV

Not often I post on here. But I would like to say how moving and heartwarming this was to read. I have been a front line health care professional in emergency and urgent care for many years, and get similar levels of " interactions " with people, many of whom forget that we are here to help...

    Compensation for declassified first class

Thanks. Assumed it was right, but wasn't sure how calculated. Was pleased to get, and so quickly. Came through the day after claiming. Also, good to hear the guard letting everyone know that they could claim.

    Compensation for declassified first class

Thanks @Cowley. For information about a refund for declassification of first class using advance tickets. Travelled from Waterloo to Moreton the other day. The 18.05 from Waterloo was full and standing, so the guard declassified first class. He also announced, helpfully, that he had emailed...

    Contactless issue with TfL

Thanks for your replies. The validation payment of 10p did go though, and the original card has been debited with £5.35 for the outbound journey, so I would assume that the card would not have been blocked - I rarely go to London and have no reason why it would have been blocked; Think must have...

    Contactless issue with TfL

Yes, it was the same day. Sorry, I meant tap IN successfully, but was not able to tap OUT (typo!)

    Contactless issue with TfL

I had a strange issue with using contactless in London the other day. Used card to tap in at Raynes Park, out at Waterloo, and then on bus, no problems. On the return journey the contactless did not work on the bus, nor at Waterloo. Fortunately I had another card I could use for the return...

Wool to Waterloo Advance in May

Looking to go from Wool to Waterloo on 19th May, returning on 21st May. Currently there does not appear to be any advance tickets available. Does anyone have any idea when they will be released?

Interesting things you’ve seen pets do?

2 occasions spring to mind (well, they would spring, being Springer Spaniels, I suppose.) On one occasion one of my dogs stopped in mid run, sat down, put a paw in his mouth and pulled out a tooth that was loose. Secondly, the last time one of my others went to the vet, who was about to give...

    SW Post-2018 timetable

There is certainly more demand from these stations to travel to London / Winchester / Southampton Airport than to travel slowly to Portsmouth. I speak as a semi-regular passenger from Moreton to London. I think that not stopping London services at these stations will just increase the numbers...

Swanage to Wareham from 13th June announced

There is a new plan from the County Council regarding the footbridge at Wareham Station. https://www.dorsetforyou.gov.uk/wareham-level-crossing In order to provide a safer, permanent crossing facility, highway engineers have been working with Network Rail to design step-free access ramps...

Name 5 reopenings that you support the most

Which is why, if you are going to re-open a line, I mentioned the old Somerset and Dorset north from Shepton Mallet via Midsomer Norton and Radstock to Bath as that is where the locals commute. It would ease a lot of pressure on what is a slow drive.

Name 5 reopenings that you support the most

Regarding the Somerset & Dorset....... Not going to happen, but a case could be made for the 2 ends: Blandford Forum to Poole via Wimborne Shepton Mallet to Bath Also in the similar neck of the woods, opening stations at Somerton, Langport and Wellington

Southern DOO: ASLEF members vote 79.1% for revised deal

Having read most of this thread, as a passenger I would much rather have a guard on the train, for many reasons - not least safety and assistance. Luckily I live in SWT land. As asked earlier about public support - I would like to add my support (as a passenger, not a railwayman) to those who...

"plans" for faster trains from Weymouth to London Waterloo

The main issue is the speed of services - I know of people who commute from the Dorchester area, and they drive to Southampton Airport and take the train from there. It takes about an hour to drive to SOA, compared to about 1hr45 by train. However, the SWML between Weymouth and Bournemouth...
