I had a strange issue with using contactless in London the other day. Used card to tap in at Raynes Park, out at Waterloo, and then on bus, no problems. On the return journey the contactless did not work on the bus, nor at Waterloo. Fortunately I had another card I could use for the return...

There is certainly more demand from these stations to travel to London / Winchester / Southampton Airport than to travel slowly to Portsmouth. I speak as a semi-regular passenger from Moreton to London. I think that not stopping London services at these stations will just increase the numbers...

Which is why, if you are going to re-open a line, I mentioned the old Somerset and Dorset north from Shepton Mallet via Midsomer Norton and Radstock to Bath as that is where the locals commute. It would ease a lot of pressure on what is a slow drive.

Regarding the Somerset & Dorset....... Not going to happen, but a case could be made for the 2 ends: Blandford Forum to Poole via Wimborne Shepton Mallet to Bath Also in the similar neck of the woods, opening stations at Somerton, Langport and Wellington
