Do we know if there are any plans to put a flyover in at Skelton junction north of York taking the down slow over the fast lines. This seems a bit of a pinch point. This would get freight onto the York avoiding line more easily and sort the passenger trains into the London and Leeds lines more...
It's sad to see the same mistake looks likely to be made at Piccadilly as has been made with Curzon Street in terms of it not being a through station. Probably even worse in the case of Piccadilly in terms of the volume of reverse movements for NPR. Any time savings between Liverpool and...
Not sure I did. This will be more expensive than the New Lane option but surely there must be some savings from synergy between HS2 and TransNorth. Any ideas for any alternative plans which would offer the same level of connectivity more economically?
As for a 4 track Piccadilly to Deansgate...
Understood, but New Lane would come at a cost and HS3 works in any form would cost as well. This may be the price for doing it properly...
... And isnt it similar to the sort of thing which is going on at London Bridge?
Now, how does a decent cross Pennine line which serves Manchester...
Yes but...
1 you still have the Tatton kink which slows things down and...
2 you will have more tunelling in total as the Airport - Piccadilly tunnel still has to exist in addition to extra tunneling under Altrincham
HS2 ltd had an option for the Manchester Airport station on the...
I agree with hsted. The whole Manchester approach could do with a rethink. Whilst the ideal solution would be a through station in Central Manchester, having the Airport station on the through line before the branch to Manchester would open up a lot of connectivity opportunities and fit in...
There is a small error on the spreadsheet.
You have 2 x Kearsley station lines and no Farnworth.
Having said thst, you are doing a great job. Keep upmthe good work.
I agree. Teesside suffers from railway history and geography whereby Darlington which is probably a quarter of the size of the Teesside metropolitan area gets to be on the main line and acts as the railhead for area. If, and i suspect it is a big if, HS2 gets to be built to the NE, this is a...
This may be the case but it would be a sweeter pill to swallow if the money per capita spent on the rail system was distributed more equitably. This may sound like a north south rant, but the scale of what is being provided on Thameslink and Crossrail is unimaginable in the provinces. Its not...
The report also appears to scupper there ever being the possibility of grade separation at the Windsor link / Victoria to Chat Moss crossing at Ordsall Lane. This is going to be a busy pinch point in the scheme of things.
Just seen in a related article that they are looking into tunnelling between Ruislip and the Chilterns tunnel at Chalfont. At the rate they are going, it will be underground all the way up t'north...
Overall, the revised curve looks a possibility but may blight the area around the canal basins at East Ordsal Lane. Grade separation near the Windsor link will surely be required at some stage as this will be a busy pinch point, almost as bad as the crossing movements at Piccadilly throat...
I do... The precident is already there at Piccadilly so its no worse than whats there now. Totally agree that such practice should be avoided in an ideal world but as listed, there appear to be a lot more advantages (and connectivity) doing it this way.
Incidentally, I seem to recall a post...
With my armchair planners hat on and spending more cash (indulgent in Northern Hub) terms but cheap and chatty in Crossrail magnitude, how about...
- abandoning the Castlefield curve
- having the flyover / dive under which would separate the conflicting east west movements from Victoria and...
Granted. However the report lacks the transparency to allow any cross checks. Whilst there is some info and data in the appendices, it is not sufficient to do the sums oneself. Without that it is difficult to have confidence in it. Having said that, it is not the first and certainly wont be...
The report sets out how they have done it but doesnt appear to mention anything about testing alternative weightings to see what effect these would have. It needs a lot of analysis and tabulation (which I havent done!) to compare the detail for each scheme against the others.
