I’d ask the company you work for to tell you where to park and claim the cost back through expenses if necessary

    Different TOCs/FOCs driving experiences

Obviously it depends on the foc and which depot you are based at but in my situation there are very few weekends but quite a few nights which suits me better than 0230/0300 book ons and working every other weekend

    Different TOCs/FOCs driving experiences

I worked as a driver for a foc, went to a toc and have recently gone back. Driving freight is much better in my opinion, less weekend work and less very early starts. Pension not as good as at a toc but lifestyle is much better

seasoned drivers.... clear something up please

Some drivers at my depot have worked 40 odd rest days already and we're just over half way through the year. I don't see the point personally when nearly half of it goes in tax and ni but each to their own.

    360 excavator jobs on rail

Yes you're right mate , a lot of the work is using grab type attachments. Sometimes you get to a job and there are 5-6 attachments and you have to be able to pipe them up yourself so take a tub of wipes cause hydraulic oil gets everywhere. You do get some interesting jobs especially maintenance...

    360 excavator jobs on rail

No problem, be aware though 90% of the work is at weekends (mostly Saturday night) and nearly all drivers are on zero hours contracts, working in other jobs mon-Fri. Pay is £20-25 per hour.

The best thing to do is contact one of the rail plant companies such as Txm, Quattro and Readypower. Most of them have their own in house training centres.
