Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

There's no good reason for any rail replacement bus to be using this underbridge. Any replacement buses between Brighouse and Huddersfield would logically use the A641 Huddersfield Road. On days when there are also replacement buses to Huddersfield via Deighton or to Halifax, there would still...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

The current (June) Saturday service at Huddersfield consists of an hourly stopping service on the Penistone line, an hourly stopping service to/from Piccadilly, and an hourly service to Brighouse, Sowerby Bridge, etc, Victoria. It's quite frustrating that almost none of them connect well with...

Do Northern passengers pay a two TOC premium

That depends who is travelling, and when they are travelling. And so it also depends on who you are travelling with.

Cancellations on Blackpool South line on Sundays

The Bradford to Huddersfield service hasn't been operating, and won't be operating any time soon, because of TRU works. Even if it was, on many weekends the route between Bradley Junction and Marsden through Huddersfield has had bus replacement. Many places on the west side have no Sunday...

Transpennine Route Upgrade and Electrification updates

This is the one at Clayton Bridge. I didn't know it as Berry Brow. As I recall, it's on a steep hill where replacing it with a road bridge would not be practicable. Were it to be closed to traffic, any alternative road route would be several miles.

That may depend on whether the Labour government reinstate the ranked voting system which used to apply to mayoral elections until the Tories decided to get rid of it.

No, Jenrick's seat is elsewhere. Specifically Newark, which as Jasper Carrott used to say in his stand-up routine, is an anagram.

Transpennine Route Upgrade - What immediate improvements will passengers see?

But it's not a four track railway between Huddersfield and Manchester. It's three tracks between Huddersfield and Marsden (preceded by a two-track section through Springwood and Gledholt Tunnels), then two tracks to Stalybridge. Most stations on the Calder Valley already have two trains per...

    2026 Local Elections Thread

In an attempt to find out something about their candidates, I looked on the local Reform facebook page. There was nothing about local issues and nothing about the candidates. They was, however, a lot of obsessing about people removing their posters from lamp-posts (along with a post about how...

The Labour Party under Andy Burnham

I'm voting for the candidates who I think are best equipped to represent me on my local council. There may be quite a few others doing the same. I'm not making a judgement on what I think of Starmer or Farage or any of the other party leaders. I apologise for not treating this as an opinion...

I read something in one of their leaflets about "stopping the boats". I took this to be a pledge to drain the Huddersfield Narrow Canal.

Trivia: Busiest stations with a maximum frequency of 1tph off peak

Busiest station is St Annes at 148,000, followed by Lytham at 128,000, so fairly well down the list.

    Local News sites "paywalls?"

I'm blocked from their facebook page for making one joke too many about their obsession with celebrities called Amanda. Or maybe it was the bingo card containing 25 of their silly obsessions. I've often wondered what happened to the unpopular cafes. The editor of Reach plc's Huddersfield Daily...

    Local News sites "paywalls?"

Reach plcs local media outlets have largely given up on local news reporting. Instead they spew out (maybe that's why Private Eye call them Retch plc) mindless celebrity clickbait, whilst angrily denying that their clickbait is clickbait. The small amount of local news reporting that they...

    Reform UK discussion

I've received what appears to be almost word for word the same leaflet and mailshot. Only the location is different. As they say, So rather than have candidates and canvassers come to my door, asking for my support and telling me a bit about the candidates (it's an all-out election here this...
