There was official 08 haulage back in the 70's. Did it once , memory a bit hazy but the Kings cross to Leeds sleeper ( yes there was one) was conveyed north on either a Newcastle or Edinburgh sleeper service ( cant recall which) the sleeping cars were detached at Doncaster by an 08 then a 47...
Was brought up on 101's and travelled extensivly on them throughout the network. However one small batch that always evaded me was the batch built with 2+2 standard class seating , was wondering if anyone had any interior shots of these units. Also what was the reason for them.
Slightly of topic was on the The Indian Pacific at Sydney in 2010. Train stopped a few miles before Sydney Central and train was divided in 2 and taken into Sydney central as 2 portions, interestingly the train had been double headed since Adelaide and lococ were split each taking a portion forward
The 120's on the Aberdeen Inverness service in the 70's regularly had 1 or 2 fish vans in tow, also some DMBC's had the 2nd class area converted to DMBF to accomodiate additional fish traffic .
When I was a conductor with LT working on the 253 from
Aldgate , a couple of passengers tried to get on at Whitechapel with a washing machine, Don't know how they got it on platform
Past the handrail( I was upstairs collecting fares) but had to get the engineers out to remove handrail and get it of.
