    Round UK ‘circumnavigation’ by train

It was same for me on my trip. You can easily spent lots of time on long days out and back in Scotland which prevents finding time for other things. I did Scotland in 81 with exception of Oban which I then included as my luxury day in 82 :)

    2026 UKR railtours

Yes, I hope all is ok at UKRailtours but I also noted that the "dates for the diary" rail tours earmarked between now and New Year have been removed?

    Reform UK discussion

Rebranding and reinvention of racist parties (UKIP/BMP/EDL/NF/Restore/Reform) have in my mind always displayed exactly what these/their people are all about. I don't accept that it takes until now for the penny to drop?

    Round UK ‘circumnavigation’ by train

Other than the extra day it would take, is there a reason (sorry if you've already said and I've missed) why the Inverness - Wick/Thurso and back route is missed? It's an excellent plan and far more planning than I did in 82 since I found that beyond a certain point, things wen't a little off...

The joys of 70/80s roving was carrying a rucksack full of Timetables :)

    Round UK ‘circumnavigation’ by train

Indeed so @Mainliner Were I to have the energy to repeat myself, there are a few changes I would make but then my priorities will have changed. A circumnavigation isn't conducive with visiting depots and tracking down wanted haulage etc. Also I took rudimentary camping gear in 1982 and slept...

    Round UK ‘circumnavigation’ by train

This was the approach I took on my 14day all-lines rover in 1982 although hugging the coastline wasn't adhered to as much as I could have based on other factors such as covering some new lines, haulage and shed visits as well. I started London Victoria to Ramsgate and finished Southend Central...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

There were two "Chiltern" 196s seen around Bletchley yesterday. 196007 was seen at High Level on 5F24 from MKC to Oxford whilst 196008 came off the depot into P5 before heading towards MKC with 5F90. This one needed to reverse so driver stepped to platform. Another person wearing hi-viz...

TfW ‘Active Travel’ Class 153 progress updates

The colourful half of AT06 153568 was stood outside Canton TMD in mid-June. Not sure if it's still there?

    Reform UK discussion

And here is a perfect example of why so many people will have issues with far-right parties such as Reform / Restore and their voters. When asked politely to explain further the things they say, they throw their arms in the air and show that they want to be beyond scrutiny. Not unlike MAGA...

    Reform UK discussion

A few points : nobody votes for the PM in a General Election, I'm sure you realise that. Secondly, it's reasonable in my book to call out racists and Farage has spent his lifetime in pursuit of division and hate around foreigners in Britain. The parties of the far-right are modern-day...

I see many Reform voters as arsonists - ever the victims and so unhappy with the world that they're willing to burn their villages down to prove it. Then blame others fo the mess they leave.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

Definitely needed so some good news for BY 1785945969 So I'm confused (easy I know :-) ) - are we anyway closer to MK to OX opening or not? RMT have been active on X today to say they don't support DOO but does a non-guard-member of staff on the 196s (assuming that's what's proposed) get the...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

I haven't trawled the thread so couldn't say what work may be or maybe isn't planned to resolve access to/from P6. What I can say is that if someone with disabled access needs joins en-route between Bedford and Bletchley then the "guard" attempts to get the unit directed to P5 should this be...

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

Just to add, to get to the over bridge from P5 there is a lift but from P6 not so, only stairs.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

It would be interesting to see how MV are currently performing as well - I often see cancellations so opt to drive instead and with only three units for use it's a risky commute in my humble opinion ;)

    Reform UK discussion

Farage and his party are keen wherever they can, to ensure their existing supporters feel endlessly betrayed and the victim of everything that fails to make them ever-happy. Farage know only too well what he's doing. Blaming everyone else for the very things that he himself is guilty of is...
