Diolch Bwsbro for the info. Some observations on the proposed new T5 timetable:
- The proposed Mon-Sat timetable is an inferior service to the existing X50 (some examples below).
- The Sunday service is a welcome addition.
- The loss of the 07:20 Aberaeron to Cardigan service is crazy. This...
Apparently Bryan's new 701 service will run via New Quay on Thursdays and Saturdays.
Pick up time in New Quay 09:25 arriving in Cardiff at 12:40
Returning from Cardiff at 17:00 arriving in New Quay 20:26
Agree - the current 50 and 550 services are a local bus service rather than a long distance TC type service.
I didn't mean via Penparc estate and Aberporth, just NQ. Aberporth is served by the 554 so no need for X5o via Aberporth. The Penparc diversion is just daft - no other town or village...
I guess it's just a matter of demand? Despite smaller population there are more NQ to Aberaeron/Aberystwyth journeys than Cardigan to Aber as that's the pattern of commuting. Cardigan people can live and work and shop in Cardigan but maybe New Quay people don't have that luxury? Plus, the...
It'll be interesting to see which one we get. I'd always assumed that it would be your second option but who knows.
Always good to look at new ways to increase numbers and not just do what's been done before. But, the bottom line is that the 50 makes money (or almost?) but the X50 doesn't...
Do we know that the X50 is being scrapped? Would be a good to see a timetable. In an ideal world some direct X50 services would be great but, if the 50 and 40 are both hourly, is providing another service north of Aberaeron a good use of public money?
Sounds like good news then. Bypassing New Quay never made sense. The vast majority of passengers on the 50/550/X50 make short journeys and the recent changes made it impossible to travel between New Quay and Cardigan by bus. Only a very small minority travel all the way from Cardigan to Aber.
Message on Elin Jones AM page:-
I’m delighted that a deal has been reached today to save the bus routes from Aberystwyth to Cardigan, and Aberystwyth to Lampeter and Carmarthen. The routes are being withdrawn by Arriva in December.
Contracts have been awarded to Lewis Coaches of Llanrhystud...
