    £2 Bus Fare Cap - A Commercial Opportunity…?

For the X41 and X43 there are a couple of journeys that run via Rochdale Road in the peaks missing out the crawl out through Prestwich, not sure how much faster these are in practice. It would be good if this route was extended to Clitheroe again like it was many years ago, the train service is...

    Transdev Blazefield

At least the route numbers are shown, there was a period where Transdev started omitting them for just ‘WitchwayBurnley’ or ValleylineClitheroe for example

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2 & 3

Noticed today some of the platform signs at Manchester Victoria now have the northern ‘n’ logo on the right hand side instead of the expected Bee network logo.

Bee Network - Tram replacement buses/service buses.

With the Rochdale line closure coming up, does this mean you’d have to go to the platform at Victoria tap in then go find the bus, and then for somewhere like Central Park have to get off the bus and tap out up the steps before continuing your journey?

Wigan - Leeds direct trains. Where have they gone ?

Are these Wigan to Leeds services soon to be split, with the Leeds section terminating at Salford Central? Wonder if 158s will still be used.

Adequate waiting room at Manchester Victoria

There are also the Scottish Transpennine services from Piccadilly that don’t serve Victoria

    Bolton P3 usage

There have been some signalling/points issues this last week along the Clitheroe to Bolton line, my train to Clitheroe used Platform 3 which is unusual. Though I’m sure years ago Platform 3 was used more often for the north bound Blackburn trains. Think this changed when the passing loops were...

Spotted 150225 on Headbolt Lane to Blackburn service today at 1pm

    Wigan-Bolton services after electrification?

Cutting the direct link from Blackburn and beyond to Victoria and also Salford stations, aside from being really inconvenient for passengers wouldn’t be a great option. Most Clitheroe commuters would likely just drive instead as it already a slow unreliable, overcrowded service, add in a scrum...

Councils that still publish PDF or paper bus network maps.

Lancashire do produce timetable leaflets still, though these are not always available at bus stations. Clitheroe for example you can get paper leaflets from the library but not from the interchange as the ticket office closed. Lancs tends to produce them for routes where the operator doesn’t and...

Northern director suggests ”bigger trains coming in December” - what does that mean?

As a regular commuter on the 6.51 service, it really does need more capacity, especially between Darwen and Salford. Passengers at Bromley Cross and Halli’thwood have near zero chance of getting a seat. Bromley Cross is also the first station on the line under Tfgm so has a lot of commuters...

Northern re-records 34 station name announcements with local pronunciation

On the Clitheroe line, the announcements sound like he is mumbling into the microphone with lots of interference. Langho (Lang Ho instead of Lang O’) and Whalley (Wheyley instead of Wall E) pronounced wrong. They should go back to the previous set with the male/female announcer

Northern re-records 34 station name announcements with local pronunciation

Travelling on a Class 150 with the updated announcements. Must say they sound cobbled together and just don’t flow. Examples ‘This is the northern train to…(awkward pause while the station is selected) Clitheroe’ ‘Keep your ticket handy!’ Also the announcements about way-finding are...

Future of the Settle to Carlisle, Bentham and Ribble Valley lines

I wonder if this timetable rewrite might include more regular trains between Clitheroe and Settle and beyond. It would be interesting to know how the Saturday service compares in terms of passenger numbers, over the previous Sunday Dalesrail service

Stations rebranded to Great British Railways design / Rail Alphabet 2 & 3

Passed through Victoria today and noticed the new signs. The platform ‘3’ sign must be the largest on the network! Also good to see large double arrow logos with white symbol on red above the ticket barriers as you head towards the platforms. The signs on Platforms 1 and 2 though need changing...

    Independent businesses on stations?

There is the Gourmet Coffee Co. Horse box selling hot and cold drinks etc at Manchester Victoria. This is the only outlet on the platform side of the ticket barriers. (A quick google surprised me they are a bigger organisation than first thought). They do seem to do ok, despite the station also...

Lancashire Bus Tenders - March 2025

Some interesting changes there. Holmeswood have had the 15 service for a good while. Clitheroe will see a lot of Vision buses now. Also Pilkington Bus appear to be losing a lot of work. They have also stated new vehicles will be introduced, wonder if these will be more Enviro 200mmc or some...
