I can see I have riled up some comments here, so I should clear up my opinions.
Agree, it was poorly written - it is my opinion not fact.
This should say that without the opportunities my degree allowed, I'm not sure I would have had the desired experiences to pass the recruitment process...
It's quite hilarious the views people have of uni students who have never been. Like A-Driver suggests, it's easy to point fingers from the outside. Now sure, some people just treat it as a waste of 3 years where they can get drunk every other night, but there are enough people in the real world...
I've just got on at FTPE as a trainee driver, and I'm not that much older than you! This was the first railway job I applied to, so it's definitely possible.
To pass the assessments and interviews, I had to call upon several extremely varied jobs and my education. I would suggest from my...
Same as BulldogBurt here, just awaiting the drugs test results and hopefully be starting an awesome new career! Cannot wait!
It sounds like a lot of the guys on the January course are Internals, does anyone know any externals on the course?
I was under the impression those questions were a bit mix and match, and by that I mean they had multiple competencies each (of the 6 in total) they were testing - but I could be wrong. During my answers I tried to cover all grounds (for example during an emergency situation, I used an example...
Quickthorn, you might hate this but I'm actually a student! Just finishing a Masters degree, but I have a very varied work history so that was exceptionally useful during all the interviews!
Flyboy, yeah I was exceptionally surprised by the TRP! I did my Reactions + Interviews on the Tuesday...
Just had the same call! Such an awesome feeling! Just fingers crossed for the medical now!
Same from me to everyone, the advice as most definitely been helpful!
Also to the OP, it would be wise to have more than 1 example prepared for all the questions. Some questions I only got asked 1 (e.g. training course; got a 4 year Masters Degree in Engineering) - some questions delved deep into my 3rd example. I think it really depends on your examples!
Hey mate, I was told in my Driver Manager Interview it would likely be end of this week coming, start of the week after.
I'm not too hopeful after what I felt like at the end of the CBI, definitely not an easy recruitment process. The 10 who get through will definitely be the right guys...
JCLeeds, where are you going on holiday? Have you thought about flying home for the day of the medical? If it's in Europe you could probably get a return flight home for the day for not a lot of money. Have a look on some of the price comparison sites such as Kayak or Expedia. You might be...
I've heard that from a lot of people in the industry now. It's slightly depressing to think but I believe you are probably right! Still it's hard to let go of a 20 year dream!
I take it your in the airlines, and by the looks of it looking for a way out! Says it all I guess. Good luck with...
There are no real sponsorship opportunities to become an airline pilot anymore. British Airways's FFP scheme is the closest but still requires an 80k loan (secured by BA, taken out by yourself) to be repaid on entry over a 7 year period. After that you have a few such as Easyjet's new MPL scheme...
Well done mate! Good effort. If you want feedback from your assessment Northern should provide it, they gave me feedback which really highlighted my weak areas, and it really made sense when I saw it. It was definitely useful for the interviews I've had since.
Luckily I've been doing...
Hey mate, don't worry yet. I thought it was a nice informal chat and thought I did alright, but I failed. I thought I had decent examples for each, so I think I must have explained them poorly. You may have done better than you thought! Chin up! For reference it took about 10 days for me to hear...
