West Croydon - East Croydon walk as part of permitted route

Yesterday I did Caterham to East Croydon - walk/pint in the George - and touched in at West Croydon about 40 minutes after exiting East Croydon, to travel onwards to Epsom. It got me wondering if this would count as an OOS interchange. And if I had got a tram around the loop, would touching in...

    Bleakest UK Station (Trivia)

It's fine now, but the thread made me think about Rugby station in the 1990s when the platform buildings looked like a dilapidated ball-bearings factory...

    Tube future notions

If they're going to bother building something new, why not close Gunnersbury as well and build a single station between the two, on the NLL junction?

Could/should White Hart Lane station be renamed?

Much was made of this when the station opened, but in reality the service to and from Coventry Arena is entirely useable on matchdays - e.g. for supporters like me coming up from the South via Nuneaton. There is a train that gets to the Ricoh at, I think, 14:27 which is ideal for kick-off, and...

    Could Rotherham Masborough Reopen?

And, if I understand the question correctly, most trains calling at Warwickshire stations do not serve Warwick. Lincoln/shire probably also qualifies.

    Could Rotherham Masborough Reopen?

Though Portsmouth Harbour is well connected via the ferry and arguably more useful than Gosport station ever was. I visited Gosport a couple of weeks ago and was right in the town centre within 15-20 minutes of my train pulling into Portsmouth Harbour. Surprised at just how convenient it was.

    Could Rotherham Masborough Reopen?

Well, Crawley has a population of 100k+ and arguably suffers just as much from the main trunk route not passing through it. At a pinch, you could argue that Three Bridges is the main station for the town, but it is far from conveniently located.

    London Bridge Station

Ah, thanks, that makes sense. I'll have to have a wander around to check it out. I'm not sure what purpose those escalators would really serve now. Coming in on Southern, I now usually go straight out of the main front entrance, without needing or wanting to use the lower concourse, and use the...

Why are people opposed to HS2? (And other HS2 discussion)

Getting from Euston to the centre of Birmingham or Manchester is already pretty fast. It can't realistically get that much faster. It's the getting from *specific starting point in the South East* to Euston and then getting from Birmingham New Street to *specific destination in the West...

    London Bridge Station

It was a few years ago that I used this part of the station - IIRC, the ramps led down to an intermediate concourse level, with exits to the bus station, or to the front of the main station (I think there was also a walkway if you turned left going back towards the river downstream). I would...

LU, LO, Tramlink and DLR fantasy plans

Give the Victoria-Lewisham line to TfL and turn it into something useful. Stations at Brockley, Loughborough Junction (as part of a bigger interchange), Brixton, Clapham North/High Street. Maybe reopen Grosvenor Road too. Run Victoria-Dartford and Victoria-Hayes services on the line.

How much of the Underground map have YOU covered?

I enjoyed the feeling of achievement and the moments where I was able to sit down and relax and enjoy a long unbroken run on an interesting bit of route. Most of the centre was a nightmare though - getting out at almost every stop either to interchange or move a carriage further up the train to...

How much of the Underground map have YOU covered?

I had no idea what 'Class B' even was, being only 13 and all. I think it was a couple of years later that the Guinness Book of Records firmed up the rules. No way was I ever going to do it again though!

Which is your closest station/how do you get to it?

Elverson Road DLR, about 150 yards away (southbound) or 250ish (northbound). Nearest National Rail (just) is St Johns but far more convenient to use Lewisham (usually via the southbound DLR because it's so easy). Deptford Bridge DLR, New Cross/Gate, Deptford, Ladywell, Greenwich, Brockley all...
