Trivia: Unusual fare and ticketing quirks on public transport in other countries.

In Serbia and many other ex Yugoslavian countries you must pay some kind of 'platform tax' to access the bus bays in a coach terminal. That's in addition to the coach ticket price itself. Super annoying as a tourist.

I'm sure I remember there was 9 car trains during the tall ships event in Greenock back in 1999 too.

A lot a traffic from Carlisle to Glasgow via Mauchline this evening....

Currently 4 freight trains between Dalry and Paisley Gilmore street. All seem to have come from Carlisle via Mauchline. What's going on? WCML closed? Seems like a bit of a freight convoy! https://archive.is/7029E https://archive.is/sShnw https://archive.is/WGfPE https://archive.is/AaUsn...

    North London line engineering

I've noted that part of North London Line is closed (Gospel oak to Stratford) from boxing day till the 3rd of January. What's the work that's being done? Is it connected to the KINGS cross works? Seems major if it's closed for so long, busy freight routes out of action if Camden Road is...

    Oxford Circus station graffiti

Yes here, or if i was a betting man I'd say from the Bakerloo depot at London Road. Seems to be just Victoria and Bakerloo northbound areas, so rules the Central line out for me. Plus not a huge distance to travel in the tunnels.

Thanks for the responses, interesting. Although I fear the the future of the line what with the current level of traffic. Not much freight anywhere in Ayrshire these days I suppose.

Ayr - Mauchline / Killoch freight line

Hi, I thought i was knowledgeable about most rail lines in SW Scotland but I never even knew this one existed. I understand it was re-opened in 1988? I'd be interested in the recent history of the line. What traffic it sees and its use as a diversionary route etc. It seems quite a strange...
