It seems our paths may have crossed twice!
I caught the 1340 from Cholsey to Wallingford, which formed the 1400 departure, had a look round Wallingford station, then returned to Cholsey on the following service (1440?), which you may have used on your return trip.
From past experience, the bus allegedly from Sandling will, if running late, not bother to go via Sandling! Bonus from this was I diverted to the East Kent Railway instead - which was thoroughly enjoyable.
The Folkestone to Hythe bus actually runs through from Dover, calling at a stop opposite...
The others are - Arisaig, Thurso, Reston and Annan (Scotland); Johnston, Hawarden, Gwersyllt and Waun-Gron Park (Wales); Acklington, Carbis Bay and Falmouth Town (England).
As a fellow traveller who has recently entered his 7th decade, was half thinking of doing a 7 day ALR visiting the most Northerly, Southerly, Easterly and Westerly stations I haven't yet boarded or alighted at in each of England, Scotland and Wales.
