You are right. Just that I was in pain and fed up.

    Unannounced platform change

Dear SWR if you are going to change departure platform then (1) announce it and ( 2) give everyone the chance to get to the new platform, including, and this bit is important, disabled passengers like myself. Thus just happened to me at Virginia Water and I missed the connection.

The Times is reporting that sadly there has been a fatality.

Collision with tractor near Leominster (22/05/25)

Without knowing the content of the call I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. The report made it clear that there had been a family emergency the day before and I suspect that the call might have had something to do with that. A tired man, working an unexpected shift, mind possibly...

Ex-banker banned from railway after dodging £5,900 of train fares

The Times is reporting that Joseph Malloy, a former senior executive with HSBC, has been sentenced to ten months in jail, suspended for 18 months, along with a requirement to undertake 80 hours of approved work. He was ordered not to travel on Southeastern Railway for 12 months and to pay the...

Huntingdon incident (01/11/2025) - hypothetical questions regarding alternative possible actions

And the potential for further serious injury as people attempt to get down from the train to the track level, in the dark, with a potential crush of people behind. The consequences for the able bodied, let alone disabled or elderly, just don't bear thinking about.

    Ticket Audit Team

Came back on the horribly delayed 19:10 (no fault of Avanti - trespassers on line) from Euston a couple of days ago and there was a ticket audit team on board. Not Avanti staff but some other company ( I didn't take the details). Any ideas who they were and what is the difference between a...

Trivia: Stations that still have BR era (or older) signage?

Slight cheat but Gobowen has a GWR style sign:

Nationwide signal issue reported on 6th December

As an IT person who deals in major infrastructure I don't think it was unfair. Why wasn't the system switched over BEFORE the work was carried out?

Nationwide signal issue reported on 6th December

Talk about single points of failure. A swap out of one card in one telecoms centre caused this? Are they saying that there is no resilience in the system? Edit to add. Just seen the BBC report saying that there was a failover to a centre in Didcot. Not very successfully it seems. I suspect...

Transport secretary (now resigned) convicted of fraud in 2013 after being reported to police by her employer.

Interesting sentence in the Times which might give a clue: "The Times has been told that the company launched an investigation after Haigh said that company mobile phones had been stolen or had gone missing on repeated occasions."

    Talerddig loop could be extended?

Indeed. If, and only if, you were to do that, which I agree is highly unlikely, then you might as well move the loop to Carno and reopen the station.

Incident at Talerddig, Wales - 21/10/2024

The summit is slightly further along the line at the cutting. I need to get my copy of Cristiansen and Miller out which has the gradient profile to be certain but I think that Talerddig itself is on a descending gradient towards Caersws.

Incident at Talerddig, Wales - 21/10/2024

I did wonder which side of the loop the trains were running (I did see that the loop is bi-di) and thank you very much for the clarification. I wonder if that rule might change now with the refuge siding being set for Shrewsbury bound trains. But thank you again.
