"Grand Summer sale of British Rail assets - everything must go" 'advert'

It’s like something from Private Eye! Not sure if that is the origin, though.

Bakerloo Line Extension: Is it possible to build the tunnels to be make for quieter trains like on the Elizabeth Line, less echo and stuff

I wonder if sound dampening is possible. Some kind of material that slots in to the tunnel shield, not dissimilar from the acoustic dampening used on the platforms of Elizabeth line stations. All while being cheap and fireproof of course!

Green Park station: old Jubilee Line platforms in use this weekend?

You mean turned round at Charing Cross? Yes that’s usually what happens in these circumstances. The Charing Cross branch is essentially used as a very long turn back siding.

    Watford DC line 4th Rail.

If it’s bonded to the running rails then it should be close to 0V earth. There would be some current running through it but it should not be at a dangerous voltage.

Oxted Platform 3 - Ever used by electric trains?

It is still used on Sundays, the Uckfield service a shuttle from Oxted. The track layout means trains have to shunt from the up platform upon arrival, into the bay for the down departure to Uckfield.

Is Britain really the sick man of Europe?

I get the impression that Russia's war has certainly focussed minds on this regard. If we accelerate our progression towards renewable energy as a result of the war then that's one good outcome at least. Even Putin can't turn off the sun or stop the wind blowing!

Is Britain really the sick man of Europe?

Ideally, they would be. But then we would have to restructure a lot of borders to make this possible as historic borders don't align with how resources are located. Just considering the basics, Britain certainly cannot feed itself with the population and available land it has. We had rationing...

Should we start mining our own coal and use it in power stations until we can rely on renewable energy to supply all of our needs?

Is our energy supply actually at risk? Or is it just that the gas price itself is high? If anything, the recent issues have helped improve the economic case for more wind turbines, rather than bringing back closed coal-fired stations. At the very most, I would expect Ratcliffe to see output...

EU law requiring all new electronic devices manufactured from 2024 onwards to use a common charging cable.

The UK will likely end up following whatever happens in mainland Europe, if at least only passively as more devices will just come with USB-C charging capability, even if not required to.
