Okay folks, time for me to bow out now. It's been nice talking to you. I have a fundamentally different perspective to most of you and there is no point treading the same ground. I wish you all the best, railway workers and PTSD suffers alike.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
:p:p:p:p
Yeah, when I have a used syringe jabbed into my neck, the police will be there in under ten minutes too assist, so I guess it is a pretty safe work environment! God forbid I should have to deal with a swearing child who hadn't paid his train fare.
*sigh
--- old post above --- --- new post...
No, of course not. We are in almost constant contact with the police as I am sure you can understand. We work in a secure environment with "panic buttons" dotted all over which ensure that if a situation gets beyond our control, we can quickly get professional assistance. But this is because we...
Great post, thanks!
You're right, I don't have experience in this rather specific situation.
I do of course have different experience in dealing with volatile situations, involving the most desperate of people, in the most direst of circumstances. I know that when you're dealing with a...
Did you know it is illegal to be drunk in a bar? Or that I am legally entitled to shoot a Welshman, providing I use a bow and arrow and it's after midnight?
Society changes, often laws are left behind. Relics of a time when they were applicable. Common sense has to prevail.
I used the...
How do you work any of that out? Re-watch the video. You cannot derive that he is drunk nor a chav from the video.
You hear him state that he has paid and that he will just sit there. He starts swearing when some big thug grabs him from behind and starts shoving him about. That's all we know.
I don't care about the kid, I have no knowledge of him. For all I know he could be a drunken fare dodging chav.
What I care about is this mob mentality and his slanderous media portrayal.
My experiences of violence have no bearing on this argument. To bring it up, is more tough guy...
He initiated it by fuelling what was an already volatile situation and then giving his permission to the thug, when he asked if he should chuck him off. He essentially handed his control over to a member of the public and authorised violence.
The thug, is a thug and a bully because he used...
Give me a reasonable argument to respond too then. All I am getting is irrational hatred for a person you know nothing about, hero worship for some random thug and commendation for a conductor who told a passenger to assault someone else.
The inspector was incapable of doing his job because he initiated a violent confrontation on a train. He literally gave it the go ahead.
The "big" man was a thug and a bully because he physically imposed himself on a much smaller, non-violent person. Had the kid been a large man, then the...
I agree that his behaviour was not great but the situation is is very tense, the atmosphere is palpable.
He is essentially caged, being vilified by all around him and, if his story is true, he has done nothing wrong!
When you corner and torment an animal, you cannot reprimand it for biting...
These are basics.
Some things we can tell from the video:
The conductor was incapable of doing his job
Some thug feels like he has the right to physically assault strangers
Things we can't tell from the video:
Whether the kid had a ticket.
Whether the kid was a drunk...
I would have tried to listen to his story, if he had failed to convince me I would have asked him politely to get off the train, if this had failed I would have contacted the transport police and made them aware of the situation and left it at that.
He is not paid to be Rambo, he is not paid...
Not really. We know nothing about the kids situation but it is clear that he was not physically threatening.
The fact the the incident escalated to violence is purely through the intervention of a man who had no business intervening, and a conductor who was incapable of preventing this...
Hi, signed up because this whole issue of trial by media really bothers me.
People are shown a tiny snippet of some event, view a few suggestive captions or comments, then pass judgement on the situation as if they have a good grasp of what actually happened.
When I watched the clip, I saw...
