I got a borderline pass today too on the second part of the DTG. I really thought I had it beat today as it's my second borderline pass on that test within 6 months and felt I did so much better than the first time I attempted the DTG six months ago.
Whilst doing the test this morning, the...
Beveridges, I for one have found your posts very helpful in the past. I still have a few hurdles to overcome before hopefully I get a job in the rail industry, but I doubt i'd have got this far without reading some of your past posts.
Thanks to all for your replies.
I have my structured interview next week as part of my second stage of assessments with Northern. Providing I pass the DTG reactions test of course.
I was just wondering what level of detail do they expect on the questions form for the CBI. Five minutes per question does not seem long to go...
It is just over 6 months now so am able to re-take. On my last assessment a guy was told he didn't have to sit all the tests, just the ones he'd failed. But he was an internal applicant, not sure if the same would apply to an external.
Hi Group,
If I have previously passed elements of the driver's assessment and just failed the reactions test, are you required to sit them all again only 6 months after passing them? Or would I just sit the reactions and CBI? The TOC in question is Northern.
Oh sorry, I should have said. It is for Northern at Neville Hill. I've being trying to find out as much as possible about Neville Hill such as Toc's which have trains maintained there, total length of track at the depot. Just a few facts and figures really but there doesn't seem to be too much...
Hi,
I have an interview for the position of Maintenance Depot Driver this coming week. Is the interview based around the same questions as mainline drivers interviews or does the emphasis shift toward a more mechanical/engineering type of questioning?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Northern are now asking if you have previously had laser eye surgery on their application form, and if so, which?
I may be wrong but I take this to mean that having had laser eye surgery does not automatically rule you out like having colour defective vision would.
What do you guys think?
Well this post makes me feel a whole lot better as I too have just received a borderline pass today for the 2nd part of the reactions test. The lady told me I'd met the national standards but didn't quite make Northerns standards. What really peed me of was the fact i'd done very well in all the...
Apologies DistrictDriver, thanks for the info:)

Just done the test. I am not sure about this one, I seemed to get stuck on a few but flew through the others. I was also so involved in answering the questions I didn't notice how many I had completed...
I have being asked to complete a visual comparison test for the driver role at leeds. Is this what I think it is and a case of matching shapes or is there something more complicated involved?
I was invited to complete a "Dependability and Safety Instrument" test today which I wasn't expecting. Maybe it's a new way to skim down the numbers before interviews/assessments.
I'd be interested to learn of others experience of this test.
I'm busy practising the dot test as I currently have an application in with one of the TOC's. I find I have good days and bad days with the dot test. This morning I achieved:
Targets Omitted ------------ None
Marked Incorrect ----------- None
Total Cells ---------------- 1511...
I am on hold for the recently advertised depot driving job(s) at Leeds with Northern Rail, there must be hundreds of applicants in hold queues or "talent pools" as they call them for various posts.
I took it as a positive and not an out right rejection and will use the time to practice...
