What products can you remember that have disappeared?

I use to like the strips of Everlasting Toffee, which I recall used to cost 2d. Less than 1P. Pictured ones from a little bit later, the ones I remember where in a windowed wrapper! The question is if they where Everlasting, where has mine gone?

    Stations With Largest Step Down.

What about Rowlands Castle on the Up, I know this platform was rebuilt some years ago! Which lead to a ramp to/from the Booking Hall (I hope that drainage was taken care of? But I recall it was a heck of a climb into a Class 442!

Tram track Explanation Single track auto divert to twin station /passing point

Gauntleted track is not ideal for vehicles to pass on! I recall reading a rule book London trams and they use an electrical contact system, it worked by having a section of overhead near the points, which if the tram was taking power set the road for one track, or if coasting the other!

    TV advert reminiscences

Nearly a week ago, I asked; "Whos nuts where stated to be Jungle fresh?", and not one nibble! So I will give the answer, Golden Wonder see I remember it well, as it featured on a Watchdog section of Nationwide the BBC's weekday early evening news program. In this section I am sure it was...

Mixed carriage formations among the Big Four & earlier

If you look at accident reports, they give a lot of information, the Abermule crash in Jan 1921 had rolling stock from the Cambrian (4 vehicles), G.W.R. ( 1 vehicle) and L.N.W.R. (8 vehicles). Both locos where from the Cambrian.

    4cig and 4vep

I recall some strange "one off" units! There was a 4 Gig on the southwestern division in the late 80's early 90's, which had a series 1 Brighton D.T.C. running with 3 vehicles of a series 2 unit, I recall the disappointment of Portsmouth Direct line commuters, who liked the deep comfy seats...

Trivia: Stations that look identical to each other

The original stations on the Portsmouth Direct Line are of interest, as two designs where used for 7 stations, Godalming and Petersfield share the larger design as they where the two largest settlements when the line was built, Witley, Haslemere, Liphook, Liss and finally Rowlands Castle. Were...

Severn Valley Railway train forced to stop due to trespassers going for the Darwin Awards

I have just seen this while looking at the "Shropshire Star" website Link, https://www.shropshirestar.com/news/crime/2021/02/12/train-makes-emergency-stop-after-trespassers-appear-to-climb-from-railway-bridge-near-bridgnorth/ At least they didn't have their lines across the bridge, that could...

Have you ever been mistaken for rail staff, or helped those less familiar with the network?

Looking the other way, so to speak! When I was working on the high level platforms at the station serving the town area of a south coast Naval port, two teenage girls, who I believe where overseas students, came up the stairs. They, then sought out a member of staff to assist them. They went to...

100 year anniversary of disaster at Abermule

With the "Lock down" in Wales, it would have been very difficult to mark this event. I live fairly near to Abermule, but didn't feel safe to travel, reports of Police , stopping people buying milk from a farm, make one think, " Bora dda, officer I was marking a Railway accident on its 100th...

    Up and Down

I was lead to believe that any line that was used by trains heading to London was the up direction and the line used by trains from London was the down. However if the line didn't go to London, then up was the line that headed towards the Lines H.Q. or main works. However simple this seems, it...

(Trivia) Are there any uni-directional single lines?

Don't think this counts as on occasions, I have seen the loco uncouple run beyond the loop points, then reverse down on to the train in the station. In order to depart eastwards towards Hythe. This action is to even out wear on the coaches wheels!
