No matter what kind of day any staff member has had, seats are for sitting on and feet should stay on the floor.
Years ago a passenger complained about getting her White skirt dirty on a seat, yet still had her feet (shoes) on the opposing seat.

Barriers are a good idea where the fare dodgers are concerned, but need to be manned during service times, to prevent jumpers, or two squeezing through on the one ticket, as I once saw on LUL.
