Reading this thread with interest as a frequent traveler to Newcastle with work. I 99% of the time travel 1st Class (work are paying!) so haven't really experienced any of the severe overcrowding on the 185's and always got a seat although at times it has been standing room only in 1st Class...
Apologies if this has already been answered but when the line is fully operational, is there any chance that any Virgin Train services will run beyond Manchester to Bolton or run via Manchester/Bolton north to Glasgow rather than Warrington/Wigan? I know highly unlikely given pathing constraints
Although with the advent of 24 hour supermarkets this is not a problem anymore :-)
Anyway, my point was that services are over stretched now, and is likely to get worse when the Scotland services no longer routed via Bolton. Whether this on a peak service or not, it's going to get a whole lot...
I'm sat on the 1646 from MAN to BPN as we speak. Everyday the service is chronically overcrowded, crushed in like sardines, and first class empty (not been declassified, but that's a different story altogether)
So, my point is that when the timetable changes are introduced and Bolton loses the...
If anything TPE should at the very least be using the freed up 185's to double up services through Bolton to Manchester at Peak times.
It won't happen though :-(
It will be interesting to see how services through Bolton are affected once the Scotland services stop. So if TPE won't be replacing the Scotland services it will be down to Northern then. Are Northern due any additional stock to help supplement additional services through Bolton or will...
I have been in discussion recently with TPE and the gist of what I have been told is that
they believe the migration of passengers onto the electrified route will free up seats on the existing TPE services that will continue to Manchester through Bolton i.e BPN to MIA. At the moment, from what I...
I would certainly take the 180's back in my morning commute into Manchester without a doubt.Much more comfortable ride than the 142's or 150's that we have now - and people not left behind on the platform at Bolton!
Thanks for the info, that would explain it. Services from Wigan and from Clitheroe/Blackburn seemed fine, so managed to get to the Airport eventually!!
I might have missed something (and probably have....)but if the new units will be used via Wigan for services to and from Scotland/Manchester will TPE not be using 185's to run alternative services through Bolton so that the already chronically overcrowded services do not get any worse? Northern...
Unfortunately, Northern are the worst, both inside and out. The state of some of the trains that arrive at Bolton is appalling. How often are they supposedly cleaned?
I've traveled between Preston and Glasgow on numerous occasions and never experienced any issues with Virgin. Reliable, clean, and a pleasant journey. Compare this to the same journey with TPE with their uncomfortable trains, lack of adequate onboard catering facilities and poor first class...
The 0755 Bolton - Hazel Grove is usually operated by a 180, however not today. I'm not up on my trains, so I'm not sure what it was that turned up in its place. However, despite being doubled up it was insufficient for the number of people wanting to board, and some were left on the platform...
the staff who work on the front line for Northern are a credit to the company. Given the rolling stock that they have to work with they remain professional and helpful at all times. With new and additional rolling stock to increase capacity and ride quality, Northern would be one of the best...
Definitely, key routes in the North are woefully short on capacity so more carriages would be a god send. As above though, preferably not Pacers, an absolute nightmare for passengers getting on and off on a peak service due to the door positioning and the doors opening inwards like they do...
I was waiting for the 0812 Bolton to Man Airport when this pulled in to platform 4. The look on peoples faces was a joy, certainly wasn't expected and was a great sight. Then my train turned up.........old,dirty,too small and with the heating on full temperature! That's Northern Rail for you.
