    ScotRail Class 170's

Over the last few months any time I've been on a Scotrail 170 it's been filthy (especially the ceilings). In addition it's felt noisy with a lot of rattling fittings. Is there any plan to have these units refurbished, or at least deep cleaned and nuts and bolts nipped up? Travelling on them at...

    Caledonian Sleeper

How were the passengers accommodated overnight? If allowed to stay in their berths until the morning then, in my opinion, not too bad an outcome.

2B28 1258 Inverurie to Montrose fire?

Appreciate there's a lot of detail missing. It just seemed to be blocking the line for a long time given the reports are that it was overheating rather than fire.

2B28 1258 Inverurie to Montrose fire?

Can 158s not run on one engine? (at least sufficiently to be shunted clear of the mainline). Appreciate that with the risk of fire other factors may have been in play!

    Darlington station expansion

Used it for the first time last week. Entered via Victoria Road as I was walking from town. This entrance seems somewhat forgotten and run down which, as the natural pedestrian entrance/exit, is disappointing. The lack of any work/smartening up on the existing train shed makes it feel neglected...

LNER - Off Peak Single Mandatory Reservations?

Yes, I looked at your site for splits. On this occasion the savings were marginal and, with that being the case, I opted for what I believed was a flexible fare (2 x Off Peak Singles) to give me more options. It was, therefore, surprising to see the word  mandatory applied to the...

LNER - Off Peak Single Mandatory Reservations?

If that's the case the ticket is (deliberately?) misleading and could easily cause people to believe they have to stick to the originally planned itinerary or, if plans change, buy an unnecessary additional ticket to use alternative services on the same day. 1779737728 There's obviously a back...

LNER - Off Peak Single Mandatory Reservations?

I recently booked a journey with LNER. There were no advances available for the trip so I booked an Off-Peak single. I was surprised when I looked at the e-ticket that it stated the itinerary was now 'Mandatory Reservations'. Is this true? I'd always taken tickets of this type to be valid on...

    Unit Swap Disruption

I was on the 1207 Aberdeen to Edinburgh today. After boarding a 170 we were advised the unit had failed and we were swapped to a 158. Fair play to Scotrail for keeping the job going but I'm curious how deep the second order disruption is. Scotrail now have two units, at different ends of the...

    ECML disruption - Darlington 22/05/26

There's two more to go before us......the delay repay will cover a fish supper, so long as it's still open when I get home! 1779469059 The voyager ahead of us has run on the correct line so OHLE/traction supply problems look confirmed. 1779469680 We're now moving (1806), correct line. TM...

    ECML disruption - Darlington 22/05/26

I'm stuck in the queue heading south. We've been told it's electric supply issues with the southbound line out of use. All services using the northbound line.

    Aberdeen/Inverness this morning? (21 Feb)

RTT is showing the first four services between Aberdeen and Inverness were cancelled or partially cancelled (including the Huntly-Aberdeen) due to 'problems with the traction equipment'. Was this really spectacular bad luck on 4 individual units,or was there something else going on?

What's going to happen to the Class 222's after the Class 810's replace them?

The problem with ABD/INV is that the allocation of 158 or HST doesn't always match the demand. In addition the current mixed fleet means many of the peak HSTs are replaced with 158s when units fail. This means that the passenger experience is hugely variable, and often very poor. Hence my car...

What's going to happen to the Class 222's after the Class 810's replace them?

Seems a poor option then, was hoping that HST replacement would provide some consistency of rolling stock between Aberdeen and Inverness.

What's going to happen to the Class 222's after the Class 810's replace them?

Assuming that the 222s do replace Scotrail's HSTs will it be the same number of units or more? It would be nice to finally get rid of the 2 car units on Aberdeen to Inverness route.

Hotels offered in lieu of uncompleted rail travel

Only once, 2010ish. Highland Chieftain significantly delayed by snow late into Inverness, so missed onward connection. Guard walked the train checking everyone's circumstances individually. Given details of hotel prior to arrival into Inverness, simply walked for 10 minutes to hotel, reception...

    Signal berth codes?

Hypothetically, if the Sleeper driver was qualified on Class 66 would he have been able to jump in and move it out of the way if it was a different company's loco? Or is it more difficult than that?

    Aberdeen Clayhills - why LNER?

That's what I meant. If an LNER train delays my Scotrail then I'll claim from Scotrail but LNER will ultimately pay (AIUI). But if Scotrail incur delays due to being unable to access fuel etc. 24/7 at Aberdeen then I guess it's all on them.

    Aberdeen Clayhills - why LNER?

Can see why Scotrail would want control of it! I guess LNER aren't liable for any delay or cancellation payments this situation causes.
