Could ETCS see 140mph running on the East Coast Mainline?

What is stopping the Selby diversion being increased to 140 mph as wans`t it built for 140 mph in the first place. I don`t think there are any road crossings so once ETCS reaches that area couldn`t it be increased to 140 ?

Far North Line - how could it be improved?

Increasingly unreliable services due to lack of passing loops meaning missed connections at Inverness hasn`t helped.

Far North Line - how could it be improved?

One quick win would be to allow higher speeds through the loops. There are some long loops which are restricted to 15 mph (entry speed) which i am told could be increased to 40 mph. That, over several loops could save a few minutes. As mentioned above a new passing loop between Inverness and...

Platform arrangements where high speed trains pass.

Newark is debatable as it is 100mph immediately north of the platforms for the flat crossing to Lincoln. Trains will either be slowing to or accelerating from 100 mph and wouldn`t be anyway near 125 at the platforms

HS2 could cost up to £102.7bn and trains won't start until at least 2036

But if comparing todays seat numbers by the numbers the new trains will offer we need to remember some existing services will remain on the WCML to serve such destinations as Coventry etc etc so it isn`t such a simple calculation if I have understood it correctly

Connections at Sleaford for the Joint line are MUCH better since the new timetable, especially going from Boston to Lincoln although I appreciate your comment was regarding Nottingham - Spalding

    Get Boston Moving

I would question the figure of 267,000 for Boston. I live on the line and guard (certainly until revcently) rarely walked through the train to take local fares so I would say it is higher. Connections at Sleaford for Lincoln until the recent timetable change were hopeless but now are much...

    Get Boston Moving

The traffic is Boston is horrendous (in the summer especially all Skegness traffic HAS to go through thye town centre) and i have long advocated using Hubberts Bridge together with a new station near Sibsey east of Boston as park and rides for shoppers but this idea is nuts (costing 10 times the...
