Wigan to Redhill via Euston and the evening off-peak blackout

I want to travel from Wigan to Redhill and return on the same day. The outbound journey will be off peak according to Virgin but I may be travelling back from Euston between 15:01 and 18:44, which according to Virgin means an off peak ticket will not be valid. I don't fancy paying an additional...
