Just seen the earlier discussion in this thread re: Salop etc. As a Salopian I'll point out the basics:
Salop = Shrewsbury or Shropshire (the county of Shrewsbury/Salop)
Floreat Salopia = the motto of both the county and the town ("may Shrewsbury/Shropshire flourish")
Salopian = somebody...
What is the official/legal position for Britain's various heritage railways with regards to metrification and ERTMS? Do the European directives on these matters (which apply to the Network Rail network) also apply to the heritage lines?
I'm not talking about heritage trains running on the NR...
The waiting room (by the cafe) and customer information point are to be swapped around at Shrewsbury.
Sounds a good idea, BUT... the plans...

Just wondering about permitted routes for Church Stretton - Beeston (Nottinghamshire)
Are there any others apart from:
Church Stretton-Shrewsbury-Birmingham-(Derby)-Beeston
Church Stretton-Crewe-Derby-Beeston
?
(I'm assuming both above are permitted routes of course!)
Would...

This may sound like a stupid question, but do I really need to make a reservation in advance to take my bike on the train?
I'll be going from Shrewsbury to Church Stretton. The ATW leaflet says that on this route I would need to reserve a place for my bike when I book my ticket. But I can't...

...any idea when the train will pass through Church Stretton? I'm guessing in the 9:30-10:00 timeframe perhaps?
I will be travelling from Church Stretton to Euston in March and want to buy advance single tickets to get me there and back (the return journey is the following day). Having checked online for such tickets, which I found with good prices, I went to Shrewsbury station this morning to buy them...
It's only a trivial query and I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum, but here goes..
I've noticed that in the current timetable, and in the up-coming one, ATW run a train in the early hours of Saturday mornings from Cardiff Central to Church Stretton (departing the Welsh capital at...
Had a brilliant journey from Cardiff to Shrewsbury today on the WAG Express - the first time I've done this journey in daylight. Arriva's 57313 at the front.
At Cardiff a man behind me on the phone - "Yes I'm on the train. And it's a proper train, with a loco!" Damn right! :D
The conductor was...
Having had a nose through recent NR publications, I've come across a project to install modular signalling on the Shrewsbury to Crewe line.
Does anyone have further information as to what this will involve with regards to signals, signal boxes, etc?
An odd question, but I'm wondering if there would be any problems if I transported two 10-litre "polypins" (see example below), with beer in them, on a train. I would be travelling with ATW from Ludlow to Manchester.
Just travelling with them - not drinking from them on the train! :roll...
Wasn't sure which sub-forum to put this thread in, but infrastructure sort of seems appropriate!
What are the best (and worst) station pubs in Britain? I'm talking both Network Rail and private/heritage railways.
