Just had a survey in the email from TPE
Asking first about how valuable seat reservations are to me, whether picking from a seating chart is useful, then it flips onto a pricing grid. How much would I be prepared to pay for a reservation?
They may be thinking about upselling "choose your seat".
Looking at the PF Notice in this thread
The notice states: "Amount Due: £132.50. If paid within 21 Days* this is reduced to £82.50." It then clarifies: "* Beginning with the day following the day on which the notice is charged. No account will be taken of any time on appeal."
When read in...
Here's the story - I would be interested in opinions on what you would do in the circumstances.
My son was travelling from Sheffield to Stockport with an EMR advanced single. His train showed up full to bursting, and the station staff and guard denied him boarding, along with many others. Fair...
Mod note: posts 1-4 moved from thread "Advice Needed on Rail Fare Evasion SJPN Fine"
I disagree for the reasons in my earlier post. A fine is still a viable option in this case.
That said, the OP should move ahead with the SD and work with Chiltern on an out-of-court settlement.
I'm planning a weekend trip to Newport in November and was surprised to see that this direct service seems to be dropped for weekends in September onwards.
There's no note in the paper timetable and it's certainly not showing in the online planners.
Any idea if it will be reinstated?
There is an older thread on this though it's locked.
Recently trying to buy tickets from Northern TVMs, I've had my Amex refused* at Northwich and Greenbank on the CLC Line, and accepted at Goostrey on the Crewe-Manchester.
Why the discrepancy? Can I get a promise to pay if my card is...
Northern seems happy to sell me a Flexi-season (8 in 28) on a Smartcard from my local station to Manchester, which will work well with a flexible 2 days/week working in Manchester.
However - my station does not have a reader/validator. Am I expected to validate in/out at the solo ticket...

Browsing this sub-forum Sweden has frequently been identified as the path that the UK should have taken to tackle COVID. It's not looking so shiny anymore. I'm wondering if anyone has revised their opinion?

An interesting, peer-reviewed, paper has just been published (link) which has been discussed in an article on Psypost:
The correlation with a low score on Agreeableness is not a surprise. Those who possess this trait are empathetic and are more likely to be altruistic, Low scores in...
Or why did they only get a fine, or a non-custodial sentence?
This frequently crops up in Disputes and Prosecutions, also in other forums where crime and punishment are discussed.
The answer is almost always in the Sentencing Guidelines. These are published by the Sentencing Council and are...

Northern tweeted today with images of a train wrapped with support message for the NHS.
Is this really essential work? Better instead to be staying at home and reducing pressure on the NHS? Donate the money to buy some much needed PPE?
I do have enormous respect for those involved at...
The forum default font size appears to have shrunk after the upgrade, I now need to use Chrome to upscale to be able to read it easily. I have no issues with other websites, though I do need reading glasses for VDU work, only around +1.5.
I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed and if there...

Indeed, I did have an email conversation with them in 2017 when they withdrew the Advances from Goostrey (and others). This was their reply (my bold):
Dear PD,
Unfortunately on some lines advance...

Legally, you're not allowed to open mail arriving at your address for another person. You should simply put it back in the post marked "Not Know at This Address". The Royal Mail will return it to the train...
I notice today that the 0747 Liverpool - Euston is now timed to arrive at 09:59, one minute earlier than previously. The intermediate timing at Crewe is the same at 0823.
One minute that makes split tickets with restriction code C4 (arrive London 10:00 or later) no longer valid on the train...
Yet again there's a whole raft of Sunday cancellations in Northernland:
Are Northern being penalised in any way by the regulator for these cancellations? What can we do to bring more pressure on them?
We are aware of an issue with emails from the Forum to Microsoft-based email accounts (hotmail/outlook/live.com email addresses). This is being looked into currently, thanks for your patience meanwhile.
