Tried to pay by card on a Northern Rail Train

Hi, here is what happened on my journey I'm not sure what I should do. I arrived at Beverley Train station and didn't have time to purchase a ticket I got on the train hoping to pay by card which was declined despite having the money in my account. The conductor then gave me an unpaid fare...
