Threw away ticket for first part of journey (Thatto Heath - Edge Hill - Birkenhead)

Yesterday I travelled from Thatto Heath station to Edge Hill, edge hill being my destination. I bought a ticket which was checked on the train and then disposed once id got to edge hill. After waiting around 10 minutes I then get a phone call to say my plans have changed and I should go to...
