I notice more and more signage directing you to the 'Train Station' instead of the 'Railway Station'.
The latest are in Bath - formal blue signage with BR logo directing you to the 'Train Station'.
When did the 'Railway Station' become the 'Train Station'?
Chaps,
I notice that some Nat Ex services are timetabled to arrive and depart from Motorway service areas.
Is it possible to begin or end a journey at these destinations? If so, how does one buy a ticket as it doesn't seem to let you buy one to, say, Gordano Services even though many...
Hi all,
A friend has just purchased a return ticket from Great Malvern to Southampton Central, for outward travel on Friday afternoon and return at a weekend.
My understanding was the cheapest appropriate ticket for this journey is the £60 Offpeak Return routed 'Not Via London'. A bargain...
I often used to buy these but lately I've noticed there is pretty much nothing from London to beyond Exeter at anything less than about £83 one way - even looking on the day the allocation is released for a date far in the future the lowest priced First Advance now seems to be about £83+.
Are...
Hi all,
I can't get the journey planners to give me sensible itineraries between these two stations on a Saturday evening (or at any time really). There is the occasional convenient 47 minute journey but the majority are 1.5-2 hour journeys with 2 changes and long waits. Irritating given they...
Hi chaps,
Lets consider this ticket:
http://www.brfares.com/#faredetail?orig=GMV&dest=WFJ&rte=700&tkt=SVR
It's validity has a huge array of conditions.
Is it valid to depart from Great Malvern at 7am, break journey at Worcester Foregate Street and continue the journey later in the...
Chaps,
When travelling from Malvern Link to Basingstoke there are two SVR's offered.
Route Not Via London for £48 and Route Evesham for £52.
Why is this? The logical route is via Reading which would make the Route Evesham ticket completely pointless, purchasing you zero additional...
Again I find myself on a London Midland service out of New Street during the day - plenty of ticket offices open, numerous machines available and clear signage showing that this is a Penalty Fares zone.
What happens when it turns out a passenger opposite has no ticket? No problem, guard simply...
Chaps,
I need to travel from Gatwick Airport to Paddington on a Sunday but the bewildering amount of fares and restricted operator availability are a minefield through which to navigate.
Does anyone have the low-down on the available tickets? Am I best off buying a single to London...
Hi guys,
I potentially need to travel to Belfast at short notice and the rail fare is considerably cheaper than flying, as I'm sure you all know. The single fare is, bizarrely, an Anytime Day Single.
There is massive engineering work on the WCML this weekend and as a result it does not...
As part of the medium term arrangements during the disruption in the South West, XC have this on the website:
This reads like until further notice, an XC Advance is effectively an Anytime Single if your journey is to a station west of Bristol.
Is my interpretation correct? i don't want to...
FGW have been publicising this since Friday but I can't see any explanation of how you buy tickets with these discounts? Even today all tickets I've checked through the affected area are priced and sold at full price on the FGW website.
Any ideas?
In terms of ticket acceptance whilst this problem continues, I hold an Advance ticket, presumably this will now pretty much work like a regular offpeak single on the date shown on the ticket, given it's fairly impossible to use the booked trains and meet the booked connections?
Is there still stuff stored here? Noticed it on Google Maps this evening near Severn Tunnel Junction. There appears to be a bit of rolling stock there, is it used or just a dumping ground?
The NL Railways website explains tickets can be purchased from machines or, for a .50 surcharge, ticket offices.
I have read elsewhere on here that they only accept Meastro cards. Is this really the case?
What is the most convenient way for a Brit to purchase rail travel and metro travel...
Chaps,

This is surely not a Class 150, is it? I notice all the other long distance diagrams that you'd get a 175 on are timetabled at 100mph not 75mph....
Lots of people complain that passengers charter refunds are given in RTV's when the customer has paid in cash. I'm not one of these people, I genuinelly beleive that RTV's are the most appropriate form of refund if the journey was completed but heavily delayed.
However do they really need to...
I use a Devon and Cornwall Railcard for tickets to Tiverton Parkway and then purchase a full price undiscounted ticket from Tiverton for journeys outside of the validity area.
99% of trains call at Tiverton so this works well.
During the Whiteball Tunnel works, buses replace trains between...
Chaps,
Is this ticket valid via Bromsgrove?
If not, why is this fare set by Crosscountry if Crosscountry do not operate a single service over a permitted route for it?
I'm sure we've covered this before on this line but I'd appreciate some clarification. I might need to travel to Alvechurch from Worcester at some point within the next month.
I was suprised to find a route Not Via Birmingham single for just £4.90. Excellent value.
But it worries me - it...
