08/11/23 East Coast Landslip between Darlington and Newcastle.

Is anything diverting via the Durham Coast today?

LNER announce CAF fleet (Class 897)

I know seats are subjective and have been done to death before, but I personally would be happy to see the same seats fitted to these new trains. I do prefer the seats on the 197s, but I happily did Aberdeen-Kings Cross on an Azuma followed by Paddington-Penzance all in standard. Not once did I...

LNER announce CAF fleet (Class 897)

Seriously? With lots of experience of both fleets, I find that very hard to believe. Passing Carnforth Junction on a 397 if you're over the bogie feels like you're about to come off the road. Never had anything that bad on an 802 on the same line of route.

    Special Offers Discussion

Are there any railcard discount codes at the moment? Mine's expired and I want a new three year one ideally, but I'm 24 in January so I'd rather not buy it until then. But could do with a railcard in the meantime ideally. £30 for around two months worthwhile usage feels a bit steep though.

    1996TS questions

Maybe one for a new thread, but are there any 96TS long term out of service? There's two that I need, 96049 and 96126. I check Intertube every time I'm in London Nd they're never out.

2023 Antipodean foray to UK and Europe

No idea, but it goes back to London Midland days at least.

2023 Antipodean foray to UK and Europe

Really enjoying reading these. It's interesting to have an "outsiders" enthusiast perspective on the network. Northern guards are paid 2p per ticket scanned, as are ScotRail and Transport for Wales. So that is likely a good part of why they are so attentive when it comes to ticket checks. Your...

    Euston overcrowding concerns

I arrived at Euston on a late running WMT service from Crewe on Thursday. Getting off was fine, I had luggage so didn't exactly rush up the ramp, but didn't dawdle either. As I reached the top, the platform was shown for the 17:46 back to Crewe, the units I came in on. Cue a mass scrum which...

    "Ladies and gentlemen"

When I was on the tube the other morning, the driver made an announcement to say we were following another train and would be held briefly. "Good morning everyone" was his greeting of choice. I see nothing at all wrong with that.

    Antisocial behaviour on trains

Had it yesterday, on a TPE service heading up the WCML. A very drunk Scotsman sat blaring music out of his phone since he boarded, stood in the aisle at one point swigging from a 70cl bottle of whisky being aggressive to some Americans on the table infront of him. The people behind me had had...

50P to use the toilets at Glasgow Queen Street

I can't be the only person that's popped into The Counting House, partly in protest at this. And of course, it would be rude to just pop in and use the bog, wouldn't it!

Apologies, that wasn't aimed at you. I'm in full agreement, though the Interchange at Tamworth in particular is not insignificant as you also rightly note.

    LNW Trent Valley services

This was the 12:13 (IIRC) from Crewe yesterday. Left with standing passengers in the rear two coaches at least. Admittedly I suspect there were Birmingham passengers amongst them, but to say they are only really used between Rugby and Euston is, in my experience, pure fantasy.

    LNW Trent Valley services

This forum never ceases to amaze. We're talking about 12 car pseudo-InterCity operation on the busiest day for leisure travel, are we not? There's a real chance this will boost use of these already popular services even further. So why not. It's no different to Northern running 6 car 195s on...

    Craven Arms disruption (30/09)

I've also been caught up in this, there was a coach from a Shrewsbury firm parked up at Llandrindod when I passed.
