    Manchester Metrolink Speedrun

From the tram stop to the bus station for the connection to Eccles.

    Manchester Metrolink Speedrun

I'm planning to attempt to travel the entire Manchester Metrolink network on Saturday. According to the transitruns website (https://www.transitruns.org/manchester/) and some searching, I haven't been able to find video of any times better than the 06:25:27 by Goran Newsum with video evidence...

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

Darwin is saying everything is cancelled and showing some Rail Replacement buses All the cancellation messages say because of forecasted severe weather.

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

Northern said the below (and as per #1), has been in effect the whole time. Blanket "another operator" and "any reasonable route", which obviously is of no help to Buxton or Glossop, but works via the North for Sheffield.

Avanti West Coast via Settle (for WCML Bridge replacement next January?)

08:15 and 15:15 from Manchester Victoria, if you come straight back arriving back at 13:06 or 20:08. Off-Peak return undiscounted price is £20.60 (Manchester Victoria - Hellifield, but the train goes further to Ribblehead)

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

It's business as usual until 18:00. Short forms are quite common on TPE, the Class 185 fleet is quite stretched.

Could Great British Railways introduce weather waivers?

I think that's inevitable regardless. One time we had to cancel a trip due to illness but it was on a strike day so I got the full amount back.

Could Great British Railways introduce weather waivers?

I can't really think of a reason not to. Currently the situation is as such - DO NOT TRAVEL gets announced days/hours in advance. - No replacement transport is put on - Everyone gets fee-free refunds or able to use their ticket on neighbouring days. The solution you propose would give a bit...

Northern’s New Trains. Thoughts on What Manufacturers Northern Will Choose?

Battery 450s would be more accurate for that title since it was officially announced that SWR were looking at it, and I beleive Stagecoach tendered to run loco-hauled 442s at one point (TPE?)

Transport for Wales Class 231 / 756 Stadler FLIRTs

I was just about to say the same (Except I only had a screenshot, not the link). As per the linked table, not by much! Each 197/1 has an individual price of £6,634,504, and each 4-car 231 was £6,896,033. (4% more) So it'd be reasonable to say a 3-car version would be less than a 197/1.

I don't think there's any way for an EMU to. Stalybridge would probably be the best option (crew permitting obviously) DMUs could in theory turn in the Freightliner Yard but I doubt they're cleared or trained for it, alternatively there appears to be a bi-di section between Hyde Central and...

    Manchester Metrolink (Non speculative discussion)

There is the level crossing at the station, but the platforms are staggered before the crossing on both sides, trams only need to cross after serving the station.

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

Maybe a partial part of this is that there is no turnback until Dinting, so any train going down that line must be able to get to Dinting or gets stuck.

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

I just hope that Northern, EMR, and TPE will have all the spare resources in place so that if NR cancel the closure they can start running. But I think we all know what'll really happen (i.e. nothing).

Potential alternative sub class numbers for the Northern fleet?

That wouldn't work nicely, there's more than 100 units on that system the phase 1 numbers would be 382001 - 12 780213 - 61 780362 - 426 781427 - 35 It overflows and you'd end up running over 100, which isn't an issue in itself (see 450s and 68s), but it would kind of ruin the idea that the...

Introducing RailUK Tickets - support the forum when booking your rail tickets!

I'd like if they were in the app. I don't often make repeat bookings on my PC, but I do on my phone. Is there any plan to add season tickets? Apart from rovers (which I know have been discussed here before) they're the only thing I don't buy via trainsplit/RailUK Tickets.

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

I would hope Northern will have a spare 323 (or 2) in P2. Don't know if a 195/1 would fit in P3 alongside an XC, but I doubt it.

    Storm Goretti disruption - 8/9 January 2026

Northern and TPE need to tell themselves their trains are cancelled, tickets still on sale for them.

Potential alternative sub class numbers for the Northern fleet?

    Either could be possible, /0 and counting up is more common, but the 755s are /3 for 3 car and /4 for 4 car. Same with 458s (/4 and /5), 701s (/5 5 cars, /0 10 car ), original 720 plan (/1 10 car, /5 5 car)
