Do you think the Elizabeth line would handle the loads from HS2 at Old Oak Common?

I frankly think they need to extend the trains to 11 cars long for more capacity, it already gets very busy even off peak. This would require extra platform screen doors to be fitted at the core stations and lots of carriages overhanging at the shorter mainline platforms however.

That's why the plan to terminate HS2 at Old Oak Common was abandoned, and construction to Euston reinstated – there was no plausible way to disperse that many passengers from OOC, whereas from Euston and OOC combined there are many more options.

HS2 will operate without through services to Euston for a good while after its opening, possibly for five years or more, but it is over ten years from now before even services to Old Oak Common are likely to start, so all sorts of things could change before that.

What number of passengers are expected at OOC’s HS2 side? A maximum of 7tph, 7700 people if they are all double units.

The peak time plan plan is for the Elizabeth line to have 12 through trains in both directions, and 12 starting at OOC. It would be easy to direct the 7700 to the 12000 spaces on the starters. Some of them will want the street, Heathrow, GWR.

When HS2 is used to its maximum, it is expected that a third will change at OOC, which is no greater stress than the above, with more connections by then.

The development around Old Oak Common and along the Elizabeth Line in general will also contribute to a significant growth in demand relative to today before HS2 gets there. And there will still be “InterCity” services to Euston which may be quicker for some end to end journeys than via HS2 in the interim phase before HS2 gets to Euston.

I think the most challenging scenario would be when the Elizabeth Line and/or GWML is closed, either temporarily or during planned maintenance and OOC is the HS2 terminus.
Where are the thousands of HS2 passengers arriving going to go during temporary closures of the EL?
Would the Central line station at North Acton be able to cope?
Would Willesden Junction station be able to cope?
Would local buses be able to cope?
Where would rail replacement shuttles run to and from?
