Perhaps this thread would also be suitable:

Similar thoughts to me on first seeing the CGI of the new footbridge.

I get the requirement for disabled access etc, but Network Rail must be propping up the entire UK steel industry!

Can someone explain the reason for the addition of a second footbridge at Prestatyn?

Unless I'm missing something, it's next to an existing bridge, with a footpath?

Looking at the direction it takes, parallel to the railway, is it a footpath diversion for the crossing about 1/4m to the West?

Ah possibly yeah, but why not just run some steps down from the road bridge?

I'm sure there is a perfectly good reason!

@Russel

The foot crossing to the west (Sandy Lane) and another one further west (Beverley Drive) have been closed

All the details are here :

In this image, you can see there is a link between the long ramp and the road bridge, so I still don't understand why a second bridge across the track is required here.

@Russel

It's to replace the two foot crossings that have been closed...read the network rail link I posted above....this explains everything.

This from Network Rail details and explains about the full line closure between Holyhead and Chester in January and all about the work they will be carrying out during the line closure

Various options were considered, including using or upgrading the existing footway on Bridge Road. During the consultation process, the option of a new footbridge was the one that came out on top, seemingly as it could be made more accessible.

All detailed in this document: https://www.networkrail.co.uk/wp-co...Prestatyn-Level-Crossing-previous-options.pdf

I get that it is to replace foot crossings, my point was that building a second bridge to duplicate an existing footpath that is within a couple of new new structure just seems like throwing money away.

I wonder if it's something to do with the maximum width of the bridge before different regulations apply? i.e. to put in a bridge that had a decent width footpath would mean having to make it significantly stronger, and it was cheaper to just add a separate footbridge (that is me wildly guessing though)
