Why can’t I buy a ticket from Man Vic to Man Pic on TrainSplit?

Trainsplit won’t sell me a ticket for the 12:36 TPE from MCV to MAN. Is there a reason for this?

Presume they are in the same group but does that block ticketing between the two?

There isn't a 1236 from MCV to MAN today, they are xx40?

Trainline seems happy to sell me a ticket for the 1340 (cost £2). Is it just that you tried to buy too close to departure? Of course as they're just walk up tickets just buy one for any train and use on the one of your choice.

You didn't say which day you were travelling, but:

Sorry I was looking at next Friday 23rd. I put in Departing after 12:30. Just tried it again and it’s still coming back with:

Sorry, an error has occurred.

Received HTTP 422: No outward journeys available

I don’t know what HTTP 422 means?

422 is a standard error code that means that the computer processing your request understood it, but wasn't able to process it.

Try this link (edited)

422 is "unprocessable content". It does indeed look like there's a bug of some sort in Trainsplit - Trainline seems perfectly willing to sell these.

Try this link.

I get the same error as the original poster if I click that link.

I have fixed the link.

It appears to work now.

Edit: Well, the link does. But if I just go to trainsplit.com, enter MCV to MAN and search, the error still occurs:

Searching on LNER's website for Friday 23/10 I can see tickets for 12:40 priced at £2, plus other options with one or two changes - everything looks as I'd expect it to

I did a search shortly after the OP posted and also got an error message (no 422 error though):

I assume you mean you are testing a fix before deploying it to the wider site? Fair enough.
It's not anything that Raileasy has any control over; when I said:

It's not a TrainSplit bug.
I did mean that :)

There is something very questionable going on when transfers are enabled as a travel mode in the search, it seems to result in all the Ordsall Chord services being thrown in the bin. I do not wish to speculate as to what FastJP have done to cause this to happen, but I have asked them to look into it.

In the meantime, the links I've provided work as effective workarounds, and can be used to book the services in question (or to edit the departure date/time, number of adults etc).

Ah I see - the link deselects all modes except train.

I guess the issue is that it's told not to return any results if "walk" is the only thing that would come up?

FastJP itself does return very strange results - if you put that in it returns a "direct train" every minute which is in fact a walk.

The whole reason I’m researching is to avoid the walk. I know there’s a bus link but the traffic is pretty bad and I wouldn’t want to miss my connection.

I'd guess traffic is also why you'd rather not get the tram?

Try setting up your own search, going into the advanced bit and deselecting all modes other than rail? Seems to make it work for me.

The tram isn't badly affected by traffic generally. It can be but it usually isn't.

Never used the tram from Victoria. Which destination would I look for?
Etihad Campus or Ashton-under-Lyne. There’s a lot of engineering-related closures at the minute but Bury-Etihad/Ashton is running every 10 minutes or so. A single on the tram is £1.40 and you can use contactless by touching in and out on the yellow readers at the tram stops.

ETA: not sure where you’re travelling from and to, but tickets from stations in Greater Manchester to Manchester Stations (issued to Manchester CTLZ) include the tram in the city centre.

If you're journey is from Redcar to Manchester Airport, what tickets do you already have?

No, sorry if I’ve caused confusion by the way I worded it. I’m actually thinking of future occasions, when I could have an alternative route from Southport back to Hereford, rather than always via Liverpool/Brum.

I’m on the Man Pic to Hereford now, having left Scarborough this morning (changed at York) and it is rather more pleasant than Merseyrail and WMR.

No immediate plans to take this route but if I could connect easily from Vic to Pic it might be an option in the future.

I know I can always change at Bolton or Oxford Road, but I was just investigating the options.

Why not take the Southport-Oxford Road and change there for Picc?

Sorry, I arrived in Hereford and went for a Spoons early dinner! Home now.

Yes that's a possibility, but I'd have to be careful to avoid changing at Salford Cresent and/or at Crewe, and it remains much cheaper via Liverpool and New Street. I might treat myself occasionally. Thanks for all the replies everyone.

I think some of us are confused what the question was here - it seems to have nothing to do with Redcar or Manchester Airport or any particular journey. That makes it really difficult for anyone to give you meaningful help.
