Is the above 4 in 8 Rover valid on Hull Trains? If you go to the NR page for the rover, they are not on the list of TOCs, but if you go to the map it clearly says "valid on all TOCs on the map".

Actually, I've noticed that GC aren't on the list either. So are the OAOs included?

This stuff has being going on for years and demonstrates the lack of attention to detail in the balkanised railway.

Truth is that nobody cares and nobody knows.

I'd say the 4 days in 8 Freedom of North East Rover is NOT valid on Grand Central or Hull Trains.

Valid on CrossCountry, East Midlands Railway, London North Eastern Railway, Lumo, Northern and TransPennine Express.

Anyone able to definitively confirm?

That would be my thinking, but the map specifically contradicts it. Lumo from Newcastle to Morpeth would theoretically be valid as well.

Rail rovers aren’t supposed to be valid on the Open Access operators. However, in my experience they generally don’t care, especially if you have a quick word with the guard before boarding to ask the question.

Yes, the map wording is misleading. No, RDG can’t ever be bothered to correct it.

I've just noticed that Lumo *are* on the list for the North East rover, Grand Central on the West Yorkshire Daysaver, and Hull Trains are on the list for the East Midlands Rover. So clear as mud then!

This was a very long time ago now but I certainly used a Freedom of the North East on Hull Trains between Doncaster and Retford.

Personally I would use it and not expect any serious issues on any of the OAOs. Plus at the end of the day the worst case scenario is you have to buy a ticket as they all operate buy on board policies and then argue with customer services if needed.

I'll repeat what I said when this came up in the context of Lumo and rovers/rangers:
There is a longstanding view amongst a lot of people that unless an operator is listed as a "participating operator" on the relevant NRE rangers & rovers page, the rover isn't valid on their services.

I don't agree with that view. NRCoT condition 13 states that:

... And then it lists all the usual permitted route rules for point to point tickets. It goes on to say:

Whilst this doesn't explicitly say that you can use any operator on a ranger or rover unless the ticket says otherwise, it is clearly the implied position. The wording for point-to-point tickets is that you may use any operator if your ticket doesn't say otherwise, and the wording on zonal and geographic tickets does not contradict or limit this.

Therefore my view is that the TOC restrictions would need to be stated on the ticket to be effective.

Moreover, Lumo isn't a Penalty Fares operator and indeed I believe that buying onboard is officially allowed on their services - so the biggest risk is being asked to pay for a new (Lump only) fare and then potentially disputing that through customer services. That's a potential risk I'd be willing to take, though I recognise not everyone would be.

If an official validity map explicitly says that it's valid on all operators then that certainly cannot be override by what is (or is not) stated elsewhere.

All line Rovers are definitely valid on all open access operators, Lumo explicitly mention them as valid on their website

Indeed, but if you go to the NR Rover page and search for (say) Hull Trains, you'll find only the All Line and bizarrely the East Midlands Rover, but *not* any of the other rovers that cover their area.

Equally the North East rover states that it is valid on Lumo, but not Grand Central or Hull Trains. Hence my query.
