You should know from this thread that you'll get half of a list before it starts drifting off to pubs near stations or just near railways!
How about "Top 10 pubs called 'The Railway'"?

These days there would be several nowhere near a railway (sadly).
that's a good idea for a thread: A(n open) pub called the Railway which is a) furthest from an open station or b) furthest from an operating railway line (presumably a lot more of these...)

Indeed. I think there might be one on the old Shoreham - Christ's Hospital line, but can't remember at the moment.

Managed to make a brief but long awaited first visit to the Buffet Bar at Stalybridge station yesterday and wasn't disappointed.

The TT Boltmaker was on very good form and I shall definitely return for a longer stay ASAP.

Just had a day out on a Northern £2 each way ticket to Chester. The Chester Station Tap Room was most convivial, apart from the endless 1970s prog rock, Jethro Tull soundtrack!

The Jethro Tull soundtrack was a plus for me but each to their own….

I'd quite like a pub that played Genesis' first ten or so albums quite frequently. Although Lamb Lies Down on Broadway might be a bit far for most punters.

A surprise find for me was the Station Inn at Whitland in West Wales - a handy stop if on a West Wales Ranger, and there is a 30min delay for Pembroke!!

Years ago draught cask Bass would have been a great selling point. Now, having not seen it for ages, l'm not so sure; how strong is it? I ask because InBev have absolutely destroyed the bottled version which is now 3.4%.
Draught cask Bass is 4.4% and has garnered a reputation for high quality in recent years

TY. Haven't seen it in a pub for years. Interesting that they've gone in such different directions for the draught and bottled versions.

Yes, the cask version is still brewed in Burton (although no longer using the “Union” brewing system). The quality is good and availability seems to have improved in the last couple of years. The bottled version is a completely different product and of poor quality in my opinion, I believe it is made at Samlesbury.

Probably, given that Carlsberg Britvic have announced that they are closing the Marston's brewery, where draught Bass is brewed, next year, likely to deteriorate rapidly.

Yeah it seems to have become more prevalent in recent years. There are a few pubs I frequent around the Midlands and North West where it is the house ale these days.

That is a worry, seeing that news item yesterday. I suppose it potentially raises the question of what middle-sized real ale breweries might have the capacity to contract brew it if Inbev choose to continue that approach, comparable to the recently announced intention to relocate draught Doom Bar production (and associated Sharp's cask brands under Molson Coors) to Cameron's in Hartlepool.
...and available as the "house" beer in the Swan & Railway immediately outside Wigan North Western, so almost qualifies as a station pub.
And also at that company's sister pub, The Woodman in Birmingham, adjacent to what will eventually be the HS2 Curzon Street station, if future almost station pubs (assuming it manages to keep trading long enough) also qualify for inclusion in this thread.

I was at Carnforth earlier today and was sad to see The Snug Micropub appears to have closed down. The premises look empty, there's a "Notice of forfeiture" on the door and CAMRA's website lists it as permanently closed due to "landlord issues".

Yes, it has closed down. This was something they posted somewhere in early August:
We have been served an eviction notice 29th of July giving us 28 days. We have engaged a solicitor to fight this. They have told us to keep this as brief and factual as possible on all social media. The landlord is not Network Rail or the Arch company it is Carnforth Heritage Centre. Please do not harass the volunteers as it is not their decision.

As it stands we could be closed down on the 26th of August.

A sad development, although it must be difficult to generate a profit from such a small space.

One wonders what the heritage centre expect to attract in its place, given that the other accommodation on that side doesn't seem to be teaming with activity.

Thanks for the update. I also found that the Engine Inn at Cark (not technically a station pub but only a few minutes walk away) is currently closed too, though their social media implies it may reopen under new owners.
