I may be heading to the Merseyrail network soon and would like some advice of the validity of these ticket, please.

Lancashire Day Rangers -

The list of stations where these are valid lists Southport, Ormskirk and Kirkby plus Moorfields. I assume this covers the northern lines only as far as Moorfields. However, Liverpool Lime St. is also listed. My question therefore is can I change at Moorfields and travel on to Liverpool Lime St. (Yes, I know it is just a short walk, but I want to be certain of the validity (or not) in case the heavens have opened).

Cheshire Day Rangers -

The list shows Hunts Cross, Liverpool South Parkway and Liverpool Lime St.as all valid. Does this validity apply to Merseyrail trains between these points? Also, more generally, can any valid ticket into Liverpool Lime St. via Liverpool South Parkway be used on Merseyrail?

I am clear that the full use of the Wirral services is shown in this list of stations.

Many thanks

I have used the Cheshire Day Ranger on Merseyrail from Lime Street to New Brighton and West Kirby, without challenge. The GB Rail Rover Guide website map for the Cheshire Day Ranger shows Merseyrail out to those 2 termini as well as (quote) "Liverpool Stns. The corresponding map for the Lancashire Day Ranger does not show the lines out to the Wirral but both Day Rangers show Liverpool Stns and has Moorfields, Lime Street, Central and James Street in the list of valid stations.

Yes I have use Lancashire day ranger on it aswell , I’ve also used it on TPE and EMR from Manchester Piccadilly - Liverpool lime street via Warrington central , even though maps show it as not a valid line though I’ve always asked the guard before boarding

I would say that the Lancashire Day Ranger is NOT valid at (or via) Warrington Central. Need a Cheshire Day Ranger for that journey.

Both rangers are valid on Merseyrail (Cheshire ranger south & west of Liverpool, Lancashire ranger north of Liverpool), but many RPOs and train managers don't know that. There are a number of accounts on the forum about staff rejecting rangers not being valid as "we're in Merseyside, not Cheshire/Lancashire" but this is incorrect. If you want to avoid a potential dispute, you should have a map of the ranger validity area or a list of permitted stations readily available to point to, though chances are you won't encounter any problems.

Yes.
I have used this without problems in the past.

The maps on GB rover guide states that both the Lancashire day & Cheshire day rangers are valid to “Liverpool Stations”. That group includes James St, Moorfields, Lime St & Central.

In general yes.

The only exception I can see is a TfW only Advance between the two stations (which would probably save somebody buttons for the hassle)

I agree with you. A great advantage of both the Lancashire and Cheshire Day Rangers is that they can be used from 0900.
The Cheshire one even used to be 08:45 I recall, however with a Two Together railcard it's effectively 09:30 unless I'm travelling alone of course.
