TfL consulting again about the West London orbital.

Help shape the future of transport in West London by sharing your views on our proposal for a new West London Orbital rail service.

The line would form a new part of the London Overground and is intended to make travelling around the west of London more convenient.

I’m wondering whether this route would be charged at the TfL (Tube) rate or the national rail rate, or something different.

I’m also thinking whether this may mean Tube mode fares might be extended north from Kentish Town as far as Hendon given the weird hybrid of fares / inter availability in some sections of Thameslink.

Any thoughts?

I would imagine it would be treated the same as other Overground routes, in other words it would be priced at a fare scale where either TfL (Tube) or National Rail fares are charged, whichever is cheaper depending on the journey.

It's not a route that goes into zone 1 or that parallels the Underground over any section so I doubt that they will pull the same shenanigans as we have seen on the Elizabeth line core section.

Paper fares, if any are created, would probably be priced at the punitive Tube scale (i.e. £7 single).

Perhaps they'll support E-Tickets at that point...
West London Orbital opening or TfL installing barcode scanners at gateline, which will come first... It might be too close to call!

I am curious about how it will end up working with the routeing, especially the section between Acton and the Midland Mainline. The new link around kew doesn't seem that bad to integrate into routeing maps at least.

That thread is focused more on the infrastructure side of the new line, rather than the fares and routeing side.
Sorry I misread routeing (I guessed infrastructure/permanent way) when I should have read routeing (fares) and missed the mention of routeing maps ! Apols.
