FIP in domestic routes within International TGVs

I'm planning a journey to and from Stuttgart in November, all will be doing the full trip by train from Portugal.

Regarding the connection between Spain and France, I will do the cross-border journey with Renfe on AVE 9737 to Perpignan, Montpellier or Lyon.
Although I have the domestic TGV 6204 between Montpellier and Paris, it arrives less than an hour before the departure of the ICE 9579 to Suttgart on a different terminus station.

My question here is: There is an earlier connection to Paris that also departs from Barcelona, TGV 9708. If I take that train within France, will I be acquiring a domestic TGV reservation, or will it still be considered an international journey?

If given the choice, I would rather avoid having to pay the hefty FIP Global Fare.

Yes, you are permitted to make journeys on international TGV services provided they are wholly within France. The Barcelona services are often fully booked however - but an additional set is usually attached at Perpignan.

If you travel within France on an international TGV you will indeed get a (much cheaper) domestic reservation just like you would on a domestic TGV.

Thank you, that was the confirmation that I needed.

Would it be too in the nose to board the TGV 9708 in Perpignan?

No different from Frasne or Bellegarde or Mulhouse on TGVs to/from Switzerland - entirely mainstream.
